Can you throw out a perfectly good seedling?
Comments (26)Gardenweed, your giving seedlings an "opportunity to relocate" is hysterical. We are one crazy bunch here - such RELATIONSHIPS with what is growing at our homes. So I called the friend who loves the Verbena Bon. on Saturday and left a message to pick up the lasnaga pan of seedlings. He calls back on Monday, was away for the weekend, is busy this week but will come by on Friday to pick the large pan. I've not only spent hours repotting these babies, but now I have to keep them alive for a week! Geeeez. It wasn't even a careful "potting up", just sort of smooshed them into the pan and packed in some promix. Thank goodness it's started to rain here, that will help keep them alive. Anyone else find that people who "want the extras" almost always require a higher level of service then you'd planned? I had a another friend come by this weekend who wanted to "shop" my supply of seedlings. She looked around and said "They're all so tiny... (yes, they would be having spent the past few months in milk jugs..)I'll come back when they are bigger". Oh. So I'll just keep babysitting till they look more like what you'd buy at the garden center? um, no....See MoreWould You Paint Perfectly Good Brick?
Comments (37)Agree you should leave the brick as-is, especially since it's in good condition. It's lovely, and with the improvements you are making to the trim and porch it will be great. I agree with awm03 - have someone help you with landscaping. If you look at your inspiration photos, what makes those homes sing is the beauty of the bones of the landscaping (the 'green') against the homes. Even something portable in pots on the porch and at the bottom of the steps like topiaries with ivy would be lovely. I'd also re-think planting more trees. In the long run they will be someone else's problem, but I really hate to see large trees planted in the hell strip or hiding the view of a lovely house. Stick your money instead into some substantial foundation plantings and around the side and leave the small lawn in front....See MoreAnxiety when you get rid of things?
Comments (26)Kathi BL, I have the same sort of issues. Kids stuff has been one of the toughest for me. I worry that I'm getting rid of things that she will wish I had kept when she's older. Realistically though, I wish I didn't even have the stuff from my childhood... One of the things that worked well for me when I was decluttering a large amount of childrens stuff was to do it a little bit at time to get me going. Pick out a small grocery bag of clothes or toys that were rarely/never used, or that you feel no particular attachment to. Take it to a drop off location, and then see how you feel. I bet you will get over any feelings of anxiety rather quickly. The other day I was thinking about an item I had donated a few years ago, but would have trouble donating now. I asked myself if I would want it back if that was possible- the answer was "NO!" It can be very complicated, these emotions. I have a pick up scheduled today and I feel that anxiety. I pray for the truck to get here and tow it off early- because I know once the truck is here and gone, it's over and done. Until the truck shows up, I can still run outside and remove things from the stack. Once the truck comes, the anxiety goes with it....See More20 Things You Can Get Rid Of...
Comments (18)Coffee mugs, pens and key chains. Tote bags. For some reason, my husband has a fetish for freebies. He brings them home and most go out in the trash when he's not looking. I went through the pen box, my granddaughter's crayons too and got rid of nasty, broken, non working, too fat for my hands... whatever. Felt nice. Coffee mugs: I went through and got rid of anything where the writing was coming off, out of date, odd size/shape and anything with a cartoon character or free cup is GONE. I don't own any margarine tubs or jelly jars. Everything is pretty well matching sets and quality items now. I have a small amount, maybe 4 mugs that are 'different' and only kept these because it's someone's favorite or the perfect size and one kids cup my grandbaby likes; short of that, it's all nice quality glasses/set of mugs and that's it. I did that for my dishes too. I have four dishes sets left. I have no oddball dishes and no plastic. I got rid of all containers/glassware and silverware I never use. I only kept my quality items. The only "hoarding" items in the kitchen now are my Wilton items. I really should get rid of all that stuff as I don't do that anymore. I'm guilty of saying "I paid so much" and "one day I might need to make something". Next time I clean out, those are going. My kitchen is perfect. I have just the items I need and no more. I will never add more unless something breaks. If I ever dump all my Wilton items, I'll treat myself to ONE nice thing for the kitchen. Or perhaps nothing at all! That's how I roll now. I'm a declutter freak these days....See MoreAllison0704
