Best Aluminum Clad Windows for Ca new home
Comments (12)What area of California are you in? Sierra Pacific all wood windows are okay. Their aluminum clad is pretty far down the line in quality compared to most brands from what I've seen. Milgard I wouldn't even consider, they're a vinyl window company attempting to build what looks like a wood window. The cross sections I've seen is that they're a fiberglass window with a thin wood veneer laminated to the inside. There's no milled wood on the window. Maybe they have some new aluminum clad product I don't know about now? That was just from my research. They're a good vinyl company but not for the wood/aluminum clad market. Kolbe is your best choice in my opinion. Go with the Ultra series, very few issues, it's a great looking product....See MoreMarvin Windows vs Hurd/Sierra Pacific Windows - which is better?
Comments (75)Moisture between the glass would not be caused by poor installation. Rather, it would be caused by a defective manufacturing issue or due to some type of unusual situation where the normal wear was affected. For instance, extreme variations in temperature due to orientation or something going on regarding the interior of your home. I design and specify windows for homes in Florida almost all of them on the water or close by. Sierra Pacific offers a 30 year warranty on its 2605 finish and 20 year warranty on its patented Coreguard wood treatment and I would consider those windows. Andersen performs well too but they reduce their 20 year warranty to 10 years when on the coast. In my 40 year career, I have had great success with Andersen and SP and would run away from Pella if you are looking for an aluminum clad wood window. Just my opinion based on more than a hundred installations....See MoreSierra Pacific H3 vs. Windsor Pinnacle Clad vs. Alpen 525
Comments (13)I have had Windsor Pinnacle in my home for 4 years now and am very happy with them. I have noticed there are a couple of very vocal pros and one (former?) pro who post in these forums, but I do not believe their opinions represent all window professionals as they would like us to believe. However, I am also curious if the Windsor windows that HomeSealed has been replacing were manufactured in the last 5-6 years? As I understand it, Windsor has done some major re-engineering in the past 5-10 years and if the ones I have are representative of their current work -- and I believe they are -- it's a good product....See MoreAndersen E series came in lower than Sierra Pacific Aspen?
Comments (39)Hey. It’s me again! I just thought a round-up/semi-conclusion to this thread would be nice for anyone else struggling to make this same decision. Our house will be finished in another month. I went with all 366 windows. The dealer and the builder thought I was crazy for ever questioning it, FWIW. Here’s my takeaway: The visible light transmission reduction is noticeable. It’s not terrible but it is a slight bummer. The solar heat gain coefficient is no joke. I stood in front of the giant south facing window on a cold sunny day in black leggings and never warmed up. My black leggings were cool to the touch. A dog looking for a warm spot would be very disappointed with 366 windows. That said, I’m assuming it will do a good job of keeping the heat out in the summer. I just wanted to chime in and affirm that these ARE noticeable things. They are real trade offs. The jury is still out for me as to whether I made the right choice. But I’m certain my furniture and floors will be happy with the 366....See MoreWindows on Washington Ltd
