Beautiful! If I see any at my local store I will try to remember to post and let you know. I hope my store has Bart! In the past I have found some nice peonies (bare root and potted) at Costco, too.

Oh Costco! That’s a good one, I haven’t been in years but my MIL was inviting me to go recently. I’ll have to take a look to see if they have any.

I was at Annie’s Annuals in Richmond last weekend, and they had some new potted Itoh peony cultivars that I had never seen before for $90 per pot. If I remember correctly, one of the photos of the flowers showed a deep dark(?) red color. I should have taken a picture to look up the names.

I was driving by my home depot today and spotted the 50% off sign. Did a hard u turn and bought a large potted itoh. It is my last impulse buy for the season and I have wanted one forever. I'm thinking of putting it a large pot because it is large and the remaining spots around my yard would not be ideal. Any experience growing itohs in large pots?

I haven’t had much luck keeping them in large pots, but I am trying again this year. I tried once for my first peony. It grew well for the first year, but the following years it put out progressivly less and less growth until it died. I did try dividing it and root pruning to keep it from getting root bound. I was able to grow new starts, but they ended up dying when I repotted them the following year. They seemed to really dislike having their roots disturbed. It may also have had to do with the extreme dry heat here as well, and probably needed more shade, since they kept frying all the leaves every June.

This year, I’ve got one in a large pot, under an arbor/pergola and it only gets morning & very late afternoon sun. We’ll see how it goes.
