I am at a loss as to what to use on my newly installed red oak stairs to get rid of the pink and red undertones. I was not given a choice for wood species and did not know this would be an issue when it came time to choosing stain colors. I was given a Minwax brochure and told to choose a stain, however, after trying multiple stains, including a "custom" color nothing is working. I am going for a modern farmhouse look. The back wall of the staircase is a feature shiplap wall painted in iron ore. There will be a small section of railing with black vertical baulsters. The hallway and stair landing are in a wood look tile pictured and the basement flooring at the bottom of the stairs is vinyl plank. The are ins photo shows two sample pieces with various minwax stains that do not take away the red. I also included a view of the stairs and how pink they currently look. I know there has to be a solution! PLEASE HELP!
