Thanks, Lynne-- I had the Underscore on my short list at one time. I think I took it off because I thought I would be better off with armrests on a deep tub so I don't hunch up my shoulders to place my arms on the tub deck. But that's why it is so hard to choose a tub without trying it on for size! Do you like the lumbar curve in the Underscore? Where do you rest your arms when soaking?

Thanks so much for the comments, all helpful. I have decided to go through my local plumbing supply as the cost difference is a mere $20! A small price to pay for help if you need it. I went over to our neighbor's house (invited!) and had a flush or two of their Totos, a Drake (maybe the Eco, their son didn't know) and their Vespin II. I wasn't impressed with either flush and they had, brown stickies in the bowl as evidence of past flushing failures. My greatest concern now is depth. Our old 3 gal AS are 26.5" from the wall. Most new toilets, even the round ones are an inch or two deeper. In a small bathroom that's a big inch. So back to square one. I would like the sanigloss type option. Thanks for the tip about supply.com, I can use them for ballpark prices when I buy.

First, Thank you both for responding! :-) This is an alcove, but you bring up yet another thing to contemplate! The angle of the lumbar support… The Underscore has an angle of 15 degrees, and the Expanse has an angle of 25. I have no idea which is better! In our bathroom, the lumbar support will be opposite of the main tub entry, so I don’t see it as a problem, but I do appreciate the heads up. I originally was drawn to the Expanse for the great reviews I found online - most of the “best tubs for 2020” type articles all mention it. But I also liked the shape as one of my daughter’s complaints was how claustrophobic she feels when bathing or showering. I think a curved curtain rod will help this, but the curved tub seemed to be a good idea too. Now I worry the curve will be a problem as it will take up a bit more space and not allow for shower doors should one want to install them. So many decisions and this is just a bathroom!

I got my Kohler UnderScore Tub installed 3 or 4 months ago and havent had any issues. Loving it so far. Was a bit worried about my kids (smallest being 8 and on the shorter side) stepping in and out but it hasnt been a problem. It looks great.
