My husband wants me to work on this den for his birthday. We need to keep the couch but he wants a spot to display his Knick knacks. There’s about 2ft of space on each side of the couch. HELP!

Need to see all four walls, a rough measured sketch of the floor plan and where the TV is. First, remove everything but the couch. Measure it for us so we can optimize its placement. What are his "knick knacks?" Are they caps, trophies, model cars, balls... Thanks.

Is that a closet with no doors? Having doors installed would be a great gift.

What kind of knick knacks? small things may require a different display area then larger collectibles.

A woven wood blind would add texture and help keep the room dark for movie watching. Since the adjacent sunroom has that vibrant green I like your idea of introducing navy or cobalt in the den and kitchen. Those deep intense blues look great with lime green. I could easily imagine a den that features navy or cobalt as the main accent colour, with lime green making a very small appearance in a multi-colour toss pillow, a vase for the mantle, a fruit bowl in the kitchen, etc. It looks like you already have a rich blue shade on the floor of the sunroom (on my screen it looks slightly teal but I'm hoping that in real life it's closer to cobalt) so that would be a great choice. This looks to me like a kitchen unit more than wet bar. You might consider hiring an interior designer to help with a comprehensive plan to create a more intimate space. You can create a dramatic change if you were to change out existing light fixtures and replace with one in the center--maybe hang a pendent light and give care to the type of bulb you use. Lighting fixture and shade and intensity of light create different moods. Replace double, kitchen sink and countertop with a smaller, single sink and more stylish counter top. There are nice pics from other comments here of shelves with under shelve lighting that look nice and create a very nice mood. But you could remove the shelf and add a framed mirror or piece of art work. The back wall can be toned down with different paint color. The wall is small enough that you could use a nice wall paper. This space could become the focal point of the room. I encourage you to hire an interior designer and take a comprehansive approach. Good luck

How about a shelf that runs above door and window level for the collections? Leave the couch and TV alone. Add a rug that nearly covers the floor and a poster or art 5" above the couch. He might appreciate blackout shades. If he needs storage, a couple of drawer or door chests for end tables could hold a nice pair of lamps.

If he needs to manage light through the French doors, I would run drapes along that entire wall, with enough panels to get a full look. I like decorenthusiaste's suggestions for tchotchkes. If that doesn't work, maybe a shelf to the left of the window. With cupholders on the sofa, I don't think side tables are a necessity, although I think they would make the room look more balanced.

Love the full curtain idea! I’m also thinking maybe glass end tables to match his existing glass tv stand (which is sentimental)
