oruboris~ Good point about keeping it all in focus. I think I am doing that okay.... I can see the big picture. I don't know why some of the little details (or maybe doors are not such a little detail... he, he) drive me nuts. I am not one who should be building a house. Honestly, I don't care what kind of doorknob or faucet I have. These little things make me roll my eyes and say "who cares" inside my head. As long as they look "in keeping" with the look I'm going for, I don't care which brand, etc. It's just not my thing. (ooh, did I just commit a faux pas admitting that on GW? he, he). Now big things (like appliances, and then of course furniture and all) are what make me excited and thrilled to be on this journey. Allison~ You know, I wasn't even sure what style our new house is. Thanks for the clarification. :o) I want to do an old world/sortof HOrchow looking interior. We will have iron railing, travertine flooring, some faux finish on the dining room wall, etc. Velvets, silks, chenille. Tapestry's, huge candle holders, muted browns, reds, oliveygreens, golds. The flooring will lean towards the lighter end of the spectrum, which is why I felt the darker doors would look nice. (crossing fingers wildly that it will all look the way I plan when it is finished!) wisconsingal~ OM! You had me laughing at your funny little quote. I love it! But then, I haven't gone to design school, so I thought "what do I know"? I actually chose Navajo White for my office because it's not as yellow as others. the undertones are more on the peachy end of the spectrum. but I suppose in your space, it reads as too yellow! Another soft white I like in that category is Sherwin Williams Paper Kraft. it's even peachier than Navajo - but very subtle. Edit: just realized this is an old post but I'll leave my comment up anyway.

Such a nice space! All that wood is going to boss around your decorating. You are smart to try to work with it instead of fight it with cool colors. I think orange is definitely out as an accent color. It is just going to enhance the orange tones of the wood. I would consider painting all the doors in the dining space, it will make the space look less chopped up. I saw on another thread that you are replacing the kitchen floor. Have you considered a slate look tile with faint brown accents? Your floor will have a nice clean look and the accents will work with the wood and will look good with your taupe cabinets. Daltile porcelain slate.

You can use this information to shortlist paint colours to then sample in your space. It is an objective way of filtering out colours before you start... 🌈
