If you are asking about putting an actual color on your ceiling (a look that I love and did in my kitchen) it really should be decided after you choose your wall color. If your walls are going to be a shade of white, then you are open to using any shade of blue, green, gray (not that I would recommend gray, it could look perpetually overcast unless chosen very carefully), complimentary white, or whatever that works well with the flooring, cabinets and wall.

I have green/blue walls (Valspar AnteMeridian) and the ceiling is Valspar Transparent. Transparent is a pale pale blue in the can, but on the ceiling next to the walls and bone white cabinets and trim it seems a warmer greenish shade that compliments the other elements.

Look for photos of ceilings with color for inspiration. I first saw the idea in a Martha Stewart magazine, also saw it in Better Homes and Gardens, and loved the look.

Well there is usually a "ceiling white" from most manufacturers, and frankly I dislike it. You can put the same white on your ceiling as you have on wall or trim - or have it mixed at a lesser strength (3/4, 1/2 etc) if you think a bit paler would suit you better.
