Oakley, what kind of tall plants are you staking? I have used peony rings for some. I don't use store-bought ones. I have made them out of scrap copper thin pipes and copper wire. They are beautiful as they age and as the plant fills out they disappear. I have also made plant labels from scrap copper or galvanized metal.

My dad was in the structural steel business, we get old bent ones from his former place of business. We pound them straight. They sell them too, at the farm and home store . . . I paint them green with outdoor metal spray paint.

I bet the copper is beautiful! DH said he has a lot of bamboo in the greenhouse so I'll use those along with metal. Amazon has a lot of them too.

I like the bamboo because I can cut it to size but with Cosmos and the area they'll be in, 4' metal rods will be perfect.

Oakley that clip was hilarious. I’ve found that if I turn on closed captioning when watching British programs, I enjoy them a lot better! I did not hear the gardener fellow say Macklemore. I went back an listened a couple of times because closed captioning isn’t infallible. It was “metal rods”

I agree he's saying metal rods. Even with his accent it doesn't sound like Macklemore to me, but his accent may be what's making it sound that way to you.

Oh I love his accent! He didn't say Mackelmore, he said "metal rods". I don't have anything right now that needs staked. I have poles/structures for vining plants. My coneflowers don't get that high, they spread out/mound more. Was back at the nursery yesterday for more - a few small items to finish out a big planter, a pin-cushion plant and a salvia. The new area and the one we added to should have enough plants now! My sweet husband just tags along and hauls everything for me. :)

I understood him perfectly. I guess all those years of working with the Brits and traveling there paid off as I became accustomed to their accents and many of the local dialects. All except one elderly Scotsman who no one understood very well, even his fellow workers. They do tend to slide their syllables together sometimes, as in coneflower, where ‘flower’ becomes one syllable.
