Hi azmab, Our hot summer temperatures are always stressful for plants and especially those less than one year in the ground. Right now you are applying 2 gallons of water each time you irrigate which will moisten about 2 cubic feet of soil. That's about enough for a new one gallon plant but may not moisten much soil beyond the rootball. It isn't adequate for larger plants or plants that have grown since planting. A better strategy is to water longer but less often. This pushes water deeper into the soil, leaving it in the root zone for a longer period of time. Soils that are too moist can create yellowing leaves. Roots need oxygen to thrive and too much water will keep oxygen levels low. Change your schedule so you are watering for at least two hours and stretch the interval in-between irrigations - say three times a week. Most controllers have a 'skip day' setting that will allow you to skip 2, 3, 4 or more days before water is applied again. Remember - deep and infrequent watering. You can also add a 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch on top of the soil under the plants. This will slow evaporation and keep the soil a little cooler. Plus as it decomposes it releases nutrients back into the soil for plants to use. Here is a link to a watering schedule for various kinds of plants. Someone else may correct me but yes sounds like overwatering, they want to be moist but not wet. Don't think epsom salts will correct overwatering. Lilies are not happy houseplants, though you may be able to grow them on a balcony in a pot.

I sincerely apologize for the delayed response! I never got any notification of replies to my question so I assumed there were none. I came back on here today because I have a new problem with my marshmallow. I have got them hardened off and they are all outside near my patio. They are definitely growing better but in the last few days, have all gotten purple leaves (still only a very minor issues with the yellowing)! It is only effecting the oldest of the leaves so far but the stems have turned purple too so I'm worried that whatever this is will make it to the beautiful newer leaves as well. I haven't put them in the ground yet because I am terrified of pests destroying them. Something, I think we've come to the conclusion it's birds, has taken every one of the 30 clary sage seedlings and 2 of my comfrey seedlings that I transplanted out. But why on earth would the marshmallow leaves now be turning PURPLE?! Gardening is supposed to relaxing

Tropicofcancer, ok would horticultural oil have the same effect as the 3 in 1 organocide? You say its lighter so can that possibly mean less damage on the pests and they can possibly survive it? Also when you say alcohol, is it rubbing alcohol? I used a cylindrical tupperware and filled it with fir reptibark 5 times and then dumped in trash bag, then filled with sphagnum peat moss once then dumped in trash bag, then filled with perlite once then dumped in trash bag, then applied one teaspoon?(I forgot how much) garden lime and then mixed it all up in the trash bag. I repeated this same exact process until it filled the pot up where the citrus went in. During spring and summer I watered about once a week. I check the soil moisture by sticking my finger in as deep as I can and only water if its dry. It had super rocket fast drainage so no issues there. I am 100% sure I used the right dosage for it. It happened about 2 weeks after I sprayed it though. I don't have a greenhouse. I only sprayed this on my 3 citrus and thats it. I also sprayed it on my sedum which is planted outdoors. No problems there. What is safers soap?
