Landscaping advice needed

The hedges in front of my house are aging out (hollow spots in them, and I don’t want to resort to cabling.) Am considering removing them and replacing them with raised-bed planters: a tall, wide one in the back (not quite the width of the window to accommodate the gas meter and water spigot hidden behind the current hedge) and two shorter, smaller ones in the front, separated by a gravel path.

Also thinking of replacing the grass in that small triangle with a cottage-style garden of plantings. Sadly, I don’t have the budget to rework the front sidewalk.

Thoughts? Am concerned that the raised bed planters might come off too contemporary for the house. Thanks in advance!
