Living Layout Help

I’m in the market for new living room furniture and I’m not sure what would work best for our family of four. We also entertain a lot with extend family and kids. What we have now just doesn’t provide enough seating. The place is open to the dinning area and kitchen as well.

Pls excuse the birthday decorations lol

Would you take a picture of the other end of the space?

Wondering if it would work to move the piano and dining table in with the fireplace.

justgottabme: Yes! excellent plan! The Tv needs to be in that corner next to the fireplace -- either mounted on the wall or sitting on a console or cabinet. Having a cabinet in that spot would anchor that whole corner. And more excellent ideas above too! Love the idea of bookshelves in each of the corners -- perhaps just try basic Ikea Billy shelving -- or other build-it-yourself shelves (try stores like Targer or Walmart)-- just to see if that plan will work for you? Or look for vintage shelving or bookcases on your local Craigs List! Swivel chairs can be found -- check your local Craigs List! But for now -- once you move the TV -- try placing one sofa facing the fireplace -- and another one facing the window -- forming the classic L-shape.

My living room layout is very similar! I had my couch horizontal in front of your window creating a entryway, maybe put a console table behind the couch.

Show pictures of the room, with atleast 3 walls where furniture will be placed. I would also strongly advice to not use sectionals not just for aesthetics but for function as well; its easier to move around a loveseat and armchair than a sectional (L shaped) and there will be many more layouts to choose from.

Try centering the rug, chairs and opposite sofa on the fireplace. Then place the other sofa perpendicular to it…just tweaking the current configuration so it is more centered on the fireplace. If this works, I’d place a short drink table beside each chair. Move the table lamp to the table between the sofas…in other words, switch the table top decor on the end tables.

You don't want the piano too close to the windows(sun damage).

How many people do you need space for when you entertain? If you put the tv over the fireplace and 2 chairs across from it andh 2 sofas facing one another(back to window and one where tv is currently), this will give you space for about 8.

Yes, it helped. I thought I was on to something, but no, dining area is great.

Is putting the t v over the fireplace a no-go? Asking because the present t v wall is the only solid wall in the space. You could do an arrangement of furniture like this:

Two sofas, one with back to dining area, the other against the solid wall. That leaves windowed wall available for two chairs, preferably swivels.

No excuses needed for the birthday decor. Fun time for children must supersede (as needed) design. Before you know it, children are grown and gone. You will miss the mess.
