Revisiting Common Use of Heat Pumps post Texas Freeze/Pwr Outage

Planning to build a home in Texas. Will have buried propane for cooking, tankless water heater...

In the wake of the recent extended freezing and power outage in Texas - has us reconsidering Heat Pump vs Furnace or Dual Fuel Hybrid ...

Standard practice in the area seems to be to nearly universally use heat pumps for newer homes usually with some sort of auxiliary electric heating for the coldest days.

Never owned a heat pump. We currently have a traditional propane furnace along w/ an A/C. It works quickly and efficiently in the winter - even the recent cold snap. It's easy to power with a small portable generator in the event of an outage. It's quiet outside in the cooler months - the AC compressor obviously doesn't run with our current setup.

On the other hand it introduces a combustible gas in the attic. Requires somewhat more frequent refills of tank (about once every 10 months).

Could look at returning to a traditional propane furnace in new house or one of these newer 'hybrid' dual fuel units.

Given recent events in Texas - is it worth reconsidering the current practice of of heat pumps w/ aux electric?

Thanks
