wall color to coordinate with stained glass window - please help
Comments (31)So you can get an idea of what brown w/ dark trim may offer you here are 2 browns that I used yrs. ago and really liked w/ my dark trim. Clearly you can see that I lean towards most anything w/ a green tone. I won't list the names as I just wanted to give you a general idea.: On a dreary day & flash: The next lighter shade on the strip: Brown could work very well w/ the greyer tones that you are trying to work w/. If I might make a few color suggestions to give you some ideas of greyed colors that could be close to some of those Farrow and Ball colors that could look so nice w/ your wood - not sure about the windows: Really Greyed colors BM Imperial Gray #1571 BM Cheyenne Green #1502 or 1512 - can't read my writing SW Svelte Sage SW Softened Green #6177 BM Mesquite #0501 Clearer colors that are similar to some F&B colors: BM Healing Aloe #1562 SW Mountain Air Valspar Field of Pines #5004-4A BM Blue Grass #CC-640 Valspar April Thicket #5003-3C BM Wythe Blue #HC-143 BM Florentine Plaster #520 SW Naturel #2080 Also don't think that using a rich cream/ neutral color is a cop out. Sometimes that is a beautiful way to pull all of the others colors together and have a subtle yet rich palette that flows so well. Remember - if that window can be seen from other rms. the wall colors in those other rms. can raelly help draw the color of the window out and totally unify everything around it. Have you thought about painting the parlor another color instead of Rich Cream? Maybe paint the entry rm. Rich Cream instead. My thought process is that when you would walk into your home you would see the beautiful window w/ no hard visual color pulling away from it and then all of the subtle greyed tones all around. Although I do see your point - Rich Cream would really look lovely w/ that white in that rm. Personally I do not regret for an instant deciding to go neutral in my hallway....See MoreWWYD with small den?
Comments (24)Iheart, I wish I could display the picture. You'd stop worrying that your couches might be too deep. C&F has never done the oversize furniture thing, I'm sure, but the old couches shown are by current styles here definitely "over-stuffed" and also nice and deep--the kind I like to snuggle into with my feet pulled up. The overall effect makes an asset of the smallish dimensions. My vote on your selections would be to vary the masses and to some degree shapes of sofas versus chairs. You're not copying a picture, of course, but for what it's worth that has two matching skirted sofas; however, between the solid masses of the sofas is a light-scale coffee table, so it doesn't look as if they're packing a cargo container. They used two different chairs angling in. One is a fully upholstered armchair that could hide a swivel base and the other is much lighter scale, with seat and back upholstered, but open at the bottom. It does make sense that what you put between the sofas might help determine whether to go skirted or open on them. Wish I could rearrange whenever I want. I didn't break DH in early enough, and he complains when he discovers something's not where it "should be." If I ask him to help, he grumbles and then has to live with it grudgingly for a while before deciding he doesn't really care one way or the other. :)...See MoreWWYD with this small den?
Comments (4)What about a sectional with one piece along the 13' wall and the other piece facing the fireplace. A square upholstered ottoman (for comfort or extra seating) would fit nicely. Put a sofa table behind the section facing the FP- that will give you a place to drop your keys coming in from the garage. There's plenty of room on the 10' wall for 2 nice sized chairs w/ a table between, and a table beside the sofa by the FP. My room is similar in size and shape and I have an 8' sq slipcovered sectional that's great b/c we eat in there and the SCs are easy to launder. Comments (24)Well, I’m going to be the dissenter. I think the front door should open into a new foyer in the pantry. It gives you a foyer that is not also a pass through hall, doesn’t open with the edge of one wall in front of the door and the living room beyond. It invites you to enter the house, room for a bench on the right to slip off your shoes or leave a parcel or dry the umbrella. It feels to me like it would make the living room a bit cozier, by not being in full view of the open front door. Where the door is currently, maybe frosted or textured glass with a rock garden, very MCM, (or dog beds), or higher windows and a console table below (with dog beds underneath?), or enclosed storage, or even just turn it into a closet, as the house doesn’t have a lot of storage. If you are redoing the master suite anyway, put the scullery where the master closet is now....See MoreLilDesignWorks
