It didn't happen to me until this morning. When I used my bookmark it took me to Home and Garden Discussions, which actually had Home Decorating Discussions posts ?? Then, when I clicked on The Kitchen Table in my list of saved forums, the title still says Home and Garden Discussions, but next to each post it says KT ! I'm so confused.

I am not happy with this change, not happy at all !

Much ado about nothing. It's a different URL, nothing more. I hope none of you get upset when a friend or relative changes their phone number, this is about the same matter. Change your bookmark and move on.

Yeah, well, that's the thing. If something isn't user friendly, it won't get used.

How a URL is made user friendly is by keeping it short and including simple words. On any website, click a few items to get down in to the tree structure to see user UN-friendly addresses. But at the entry point, top level, short and sweet is the commonest approach.

Houzz.com/discussions is about as easy as might be expected. But again, it's a one time entry to make, bookmark, and move on. Sign in, save the sign on if you want (I don't, personal preference) Even if it were several words long, a simply cut and paste takes care of any problem.

Yep, it is as big a pain as remembering a new phone number. Painful! I can tell you my mom's phone number 20 years ago, but I can't tell you what it is today.

Rob, no one needs to remember numbers anymore, that was why I made the comment. Any change is a one time entry. You know that, I'm sure you use a digital directory on your phone, whether it's a landline or a cell phone. If you don't you should.

To change the font size in a browser, Ctrl+(minus sign) or (plus sign).

Just save it as a new bookmark and delete the old Gardenweb bookmarks. I did that and renamed them Kitchen Table and Cooking. Works great now.

Actually I do have to remember a number. But I've chosen to remember one number only. Try figuring out how to call anybody when you've been flooded and have no phone.....

Font size etc. I can deal with by setting a zoom, applying my own CSS, etc..

And Houzz does has some good features, as well as some I couldn't care less about.

I can hide/block and style to suit "me" for the most part.

One minor thing I hope they fix:

I used to be able to click the "updated at time stamp" to enter the discussion after the newest post with a single click. At some point they had linked the time stamp to the comment box at the end of the discussion which had an "Id" of "#addAnswer". That Id/Anchor no longer exists, so it enters at the top. The ID/anchor would be trivial to restore.

Another nitpick, since they're saving money by reducing maintenance is to not use such inferior quality thumbs for uploaded images.

Yes, of course you can still click the image to see the higher resolution image but... I'd rather not have to click a inferior quality thumb just to see the "real" image. :)

Phone numbers? I can remember the one I used as a teen. (no phone growing up, it was my cousin's) I can remember the first one I had, back about 1974/5. The one I have now, my computer remembers it for me so I don't have to. :)

Well I almost just gave up and figured I might never see these forums again and I felt sad. I dont even know for sure how I ended up finally getting here. I sure hope this isnt the beginning of the end. If it is I want to say thank you to all here who have been so supportive to other members and friends on the forum. So many kind people and it makes me sad to think that it might all be going away.

It's easy enough to use the houzz url, but it includes some 'features' that many of us dislike that gardenweb didn't have, like 'featured answer' which I personally find a big pain in the a$$. It appears above the rest of the comments, completely out of context from the other answers, then appears again in the order it was posted. I also don't want to see the stats of 'frequent posters' that you see on the houzz url. But since it's all free, but for our annoyance, we get what they give us.

BTW, if viewing houzz in a browser and you are using an adblocker but don't like the "featured answer" feature, this rule should let it know what you think of it:

An adblocker doesn't just block ads, it will, with minimal effort, block annoyances, hide visual pollution, enhance your browsing experience.

For example, using uBlock Origin, click the icon, select the eyedropper, select the area to hide and click, preview and if correct, create the rule. If you get it wrong, no harm done, just go into the dashboard and remove it.

If you have no phone, you have no need for any phone number. But numbers in a smartphone (whether of the iPhone or Android family) that sync with Google are always backed up and always available from anywhere so long as there's a means to access the internet and one's Google account.

For those for whom flood disaster planning needs to be a high priority, I doubt that having access to one phone number would be the highest priority of matters to be concerned with. And if it is, pencil and paper and copies in various places (including cars) should suffice. Whether to dial a 1 or an area code before dialing in case of a flood? Give me a break

Having bookmarked the address Elmer gave us, I have no more problems. It must be used exactly as written: Houzz.com/discussions.

I can use the links through my topics but it doesn't give me GW with the title of the kitchen table. I can't help feeling a little bit like taking away the title of kitchen table is robbing the group a little bit of its identity. I know it's a perception thing but that counts sometimes.

Earlier in the day my bookmark took me to Houzz instead of gardenweb/kitchen table. I just came on and it's seems to be back to normal so maybe it is fixed?

A small thing, but I used to always click on the latest comment (the avatar) e.g. "5 minutes ago" to the right of the thread and it would take me to the most recent comment at the bottom of the page.

Now it just sits at the title of the thread and I have to hit 'end' to get to the bottom of the page. It's 2 steps instead of just 1 step :-)

Now I can also get back into The Kitchen Table via the Gardenweb login and The Kitchen Table is at the top of the page. Many thanks to the person who changed it back to our old familiar site!

I still can't use my old GW bookmark to get here.

Eileen, I use my bookmark, then go up to the notifications of posts I've posted on, then scroll up to the KT link. It's a pain............. But the only way my bookmark works.

I don't have notifications of posts because I hardly ever post here anymore. The disrespect of their members by not fixing problems got to be too much for me.

I'm back on Gardenweb ! I had to Google gardenweb.com to get there. I was so surprised when it actually worked.

To those of us who have been here for 20+ years, it was a lot more stressful than learning a new phone number.

I could not figure what was wrong since for two days when I clicked on my kitchen table bookmark it took me to a strange page with ransom old postings. Finally got it and my bookmark is now home and garden. Will this post just go to the kitchen table or to every forum?

I got redirected to some obscure Houzz page yesterday as well. I can deal with the URL change with no problem but every time I close out of a thread on KT (or whatever it's called now) it throws the below error message.

Very annoying! Is anybody else seeing this? It's not happening in any of the other forums...only KT.

It appears the GW URL is working again for KT. I cannot get it to hold a GW bookmark for HD Convo's tho'. I get into convo's from the GW URL, set a new bookmark for it, then when I use the bookmark it switches to the houzz URL.

olychick, I've tried setting a new bookmark several times and they always revert back to houzz.

I give up.

Well, this is interesting. For the past couple of days I had been clicking on my bookmark for The Kitchen Table on GardenWeb, which would take me to a crazy page on Houzz, then I'd have to click on The Kitchen Table listed at the bottom of "Your Topics" to get here. I was prepared to do that again just now, but when I clicked on my bookmark it to me right to The Kitchen Table on GardenWeb.

I just hope it stays...

FWIW, I've noticed, when clicking links, I randomly land on either URL with no apparent rhyme or reason. I can always tell it's houzz.com because there's no 'Like' for the original post, and yes - the 'Featured Answer' which doesn't bother me, but just seems totally superfluous.

I usually replace 'houzz' in the URL with 'gardenweb' and reload.

Gardenweb is back. I am on my laptop in Cathedral City, but I assume it would work on my desktop computer in L.A.

It was very annoying when we were forced to use the Houzz portal, partly because of the way pictures were displayed and partly because there was the stupid "featured" answer that would show up at the top (and out of order) and then again in its proper order. I wish there were a way to disable that feature, as that was what bothered me the most. At least we don't have that on Gardenweb.

Right, what you're experiencing is what I'm experiencing.

Are you using an adblocker? If you are, which one?

I've been using Ublock Origin for so long I don't remember how to add a filter to Adblock Plus but it should be just as easy.

In Ublock Origin, to add a filter that I was given, I would click my Ublock Origin icon, open the dashboard, paste the filter at the bottom of "My Filters", and click "Apply Changes".

For Adblock Plus, there should be a similar way to accomplish the same thing. (there is, I just don't have it right here in front of me :) )
