They are finished too shiny. Dark Colors show all of the normal scratches and everyday wear much more than other lighter colors. It wears better as a more matte finish, as everything blends in more, until patina is reached. The salesperson should have mentioned this, and then shown you this. If your fabricator can finish with a coarser sanding pad for a matte (which will look like a lighter color) I think you’ll be much happier.

No one mentioned that at all. In fact I talked about wanting something durable as we have a large family. I would be ok with a lighter. I guess it would look more gray which is fine. This is terrible. I think plastic grocery bags did this.

What do you mean gray scotchbrite? for me to do or for them to refinish with? something I’d better learn?

Gray Scotch Brite. This is your final finish, like it or not. Your fabricator can remove the scratches you have, but he has to finish with this or an equivalent. You have to change the way you treat your countertops or learn to refinish them yourself or both. Or replace the tops.

thank you. We have babied them and been very very careful. This was from grocery bags. Is it hard to refinish? How long does it take? I’m super disappointed no one told us about this. I would have definitely made a different choice. I mean we have to use the counters. Now if you use them they scratch. I feel like if I breath on them they scratch. Ugh.

We can’t afford to replace ever. We spent half of our renovation budget on these and there is no way we can save that up again. I could cry.

what finish would you guess the finish is on mine? Would it be better to have them refinished as a semi gloss? Would that hide the scratches and scuffs better?

Sales person failure for sure. I once had a client insist on black acryclic (ie Corian, Hi Macs) tops. I warned and advised her many times about how easy dark show scratches. She insisted any way. Tops go in. And she calls me to say "you didn't tell me they would scratch THIS easily". I'm sad for you that no one told you.

I’m about to take this issue up with the place er bought them from. I think we should’ve been warned.

Those are too shiny. Shiny black shows everything. Go matte, or rip them out and do lanimate.
