Please give some priorities to get some comments from readers: work space, master bedroom, kids' space? Do you work at home every day 9-5? Are the kids home schooling with you every day? Do you have a budget for current changes or are you working with what you have?

Do you have any options about where to place TV, or is there only one place to hook it up? Would the landlord allow you to have additional connections installed? Set all the decor aside until you get the furniture properly placed. Could the terrarium go in the master? I suggest one chair and a 3-seat sofa for starters.

the main difficulty I'm having is where to place the desk along with the fish tank. I would like to keep it out in the main living areas for everyone to enjoy, if I could find a spot ideal for it, but I really wouldn't want it in any of the rooms. if it came down to it, I wouldn't be completely opposed to getting rid of it all together. I mean, don't get me wrong, I do like it as it does bring a sense of tranquility and my kids do really enjoy it, however, at the end of the day it is what it is.

currently u do work at home due to covid, and my son is with me most of the time, single father too btw, will eventually end up back in the office, just not sure when just yet. I do have some extra funds to play with go get additional items, to an extent. Pretty much, offer up and Craigslist have been more than resourceful lol. granted it does take a min to find something that I like, is in good conditoon, and not being sold for an outrageously unrealistic amount, but so farbits work out, especially when u look in the right cities lol

as far as the TV decoenthusiaste....it is a smart TV so I can essentially put it anywhere I want and not have to worry about the cable boxes, which btw are current at the opposite wall actually right next to the edge of the desk. n regards to the chair your referring to, do you mean like a recliner? I do like the idea of that, if I that is what u mean. oh and the autom I will most likely be getting rid of, currently it is the being used to eat on until I get the dining table situation taken care of hahaha. We do what we can with what we have , right? lol

I completely agree with decoenthusiaste that the decor items should be set aside for now.

1- Pick all the decor items up and put them in a closet. That'll get them out of the way.

2- If there are extras you've had second thoughts about, return them to the store. Do not buy any more decor, you have more than enough for this size apartment.

3- Then swap your sofa with the desk and its chair so that the sofa is directly opposite the tv.

4- Spread the rug out in the living room.

5- Pull your chair(s) up to the dining table. You may be using two office chairs for now, that's okay if your son is old enough to sit on one safely. Clear off the dining table and start eating there with your son.

6- For your shopping on craigslist: bed frame and nightstands, four dining chairs. two nightstand lamps. The sofa and ottoman are fine for now. You do not need to get rid of the tv stand or install the tv on the wall at this point.

7- After a couple weeks, you'll have squared most things away and it will be clearer where any pictures can be put up.

Agree to start with decluttering. Start with making neat bins of everything. Then move the couch to the right. I’d probably get rid of the console and mount the tv on the wall. Add the rug. New ottoman or coffee table.

I know that The place look all discombobulated and confused but I'm actually in the middle of deep cleaning today, mopping the floors dusting and moved things around to get it all.
But you guys are correct in that I can't hang the things on the wall until the furniture is in place, but that's where I started off, where to place the desk, couch, fish tank band tv. the TV will get mounted on the wall, already have the mounting bracket for it, but want to make sure it'll b in the right location first, in that if the tank will stay where is at or moved.

so here's now with the couch and desk flipped around, my rug layer back down with the ottoman as well. and yes the plan already was to get rid of the council once the TV is mounted on the wall, and like I said the mount is already purchased and ready to go, hence the marking layouts on the wall for positioning.

as far as my desk goes, no it would not be ideal for my to work off my couch with what I do. I utilize all 3 of my screens while I work. I originally had the desk over right near the dining table, but wouldn't be able to use the dining table, which is why I moved it. I really don't want it in my room as I kinda did want that level of separation from my bed and my desk, however, if it turns out that that will be the best and most ideal spot for my desk, it is what it is then

I always like to draw up a floor plan to test and find the optimal layout. You can try that out too :)

This arrangement looks fine. Once you finish cleaning, put the stuff away in closets and cabinets. If you would like advice on organizing storage or everyday keeping up with putting stuff away, just ask.

Your dining table looks tall to me. Is it bistro/counter height?The high stools/chairs are difficult for kid and older people to climb onto easily and hard to find for sale without the table that goes with them. Try a standard height table and chairs. Have you tried your desk set up on the wall under the clock? You might do that and place the table parallel to it and perpendicular to the kitchen counter. It could flex to provide you with a surface to lay out any work projects you might have. Would the second bedroom be suitable for the fish tank? Kids should learn how to care for pets (with supervision, of course.) When the fish pass on, you have my permission to get rid of the tank, or convert it to a terrarium with some other critters in it. Have considered a corner mount to hang TV left of the sliders? An articulated one that allows you to pull down the TV would be good for bean bag watching by kids. Then you can center a new sofa on the wall with art hung 5" above it. Float a lounge chair in a good location for you to view TV. You may have room for another chair, maybe a swivel, where the TV is now. yes I'm the dining table is a tall one, and no not ideal for my kids, which is also why I'm not using the other computer chair at the table. as I have been looking for replacement chairs, I have also been looking for a whole new dining table, which your absolutely right about and I might just do anyways. I did have the desk under the clock originally and the table next to the The wall but I don't like it cause it Block too much of the pathway.

I like to point out that I've already tried all the obvious layouts before reaching out for help. this is a last resort to see if someone has some out of the box perfect arrangement ideas that will work.

Also, I do appreciate everyone's concern as to my organizational skills, or lack there of in your opinion, but honestly, the "clutter" that I have right now, for example everything that's currently on my dining table are decor items that will go on the shelves that I have that need to get placed on the walls.

Working from home is tough. I think the best idea is to get the workspace out of the living room. For best functionality. But it’s obviously your choice if that’s important to you. I’d personally prefer the desk in a nook. Or in the bedroom. And have a work free living room.
You really know what your doing. I think it’s a matter of time until you get it set up. I agree with tv centered on the wall. I’d put the fish tank elsewhere.

Maybe the fish could be downsized to a couple of smaller aquariums that could go in your kiddos' bedroom. You could sell the big tank and put that money on a new 3-seat sofa.

ok. sounds like the way to go is in my room. ok. is now let me ask this question, where now in my room? you mentioned a nook. well I have one, but my dresser is there currently. see photos. before I had my bed along the wall to the left as you enter the room, but felt like it took up too much unnecessary area. just barely moved my bed to its current location maybe 2 weeks ago. So the question is now: bed, dresser, desk locations?

and yes, I will also move the fish tank, im thinking on the opposite side of the sliding door. it should fit perfectly there next to the couch.

You might try the bed in the corner with the fish tank to one side and the desk on the other. For example, head of the bed in the corner under the two windows, tank by the closet door and desk on wall between entry door and window. These are not your style but to show how it opens more wall space right and left of the bed.

Can your desk go to the left of the fridge where dining table is now? If it’s just you and your son maybe replace current DR table with a smaller and standard height (29”) and round dining room table? If you replaced your current table with a smaller round one, say 30-32” diameter, it could “float” in the space behind the desk (if desk is against wall, left of fridge). Though somewhat unconventional many kitchens do have a built in desk, (this would mimic that) and with small apartments creativity is essential to use space efficiently. If this worked you’d have more breathing room around sofa and could keep fish tank in LR. If replacing DR chairs as small scale as you can that’s still comfortable for adult you.

If the above furniture placements works, you could possibly replace your current desk with one that has simpler lines, like simple square metal legs and a wood or wood veneer desktop. That sort of desk would visually take up less room that as n your current desk.

Was going to say the same as weathy. Maybe put the desk near the fridge.

Or was thinking about the walk in closet... how big is it.

There’s got to be a functional place to have your desk I think we just need to discover it. Walk around your house and snap clear good pics of any potential desk area.
