Taj Mahal Quartzite review

I’d love if people could chime in if they have used Taj Mahal Quartzite for countertops. I really love this stone and want it for our kitchen remodel. I’m leaning towards the honed...essentially I want to know how bullet proof and durable it is. I had marble countertops in my last kitchen and while beautiful it was a nightmare. I want this kitchen to be stress free!!! Thank You!!

I don’t have Taj Mahal, but I do have leathered Perla Vanata quartzite and it is so much better than marble. Quartzite does not have calcium in it so acidic liquids (lemon, lime, vinegar) won’t etch it. And as I mentioned in another discussion, I have spilled everything on my quartzite counters (red wine, red vinegar, pomegranate juice, tea, paprika) and nothing has stained it, except strawberries. I recommend a thicker-looking countertop with a mitered (not stacked) edge. Your counter will look more substantial

I have TM with a polished finish and it has been bulletproof. I don't baby my counters. Plan on using polished TM again for a future project.

The only issue with TM is that it can be a bit hard to find the right backsplash!

I like the original TM slabs which were more swirly off-white, creamy beige with brown/gold veins. Those colors are hard to find these days. Now you mostly see slabs that are more gray/green with distinct stripes.

Thank you all so much for posting your comments here, reading all your comments finally helped me make a decision! We decided to go for leathered Taj for our kitchen renovation. Bacskplash, countertops, island…We have dark, honed marble now and ceaserstone and the marble etched and stained horribly. We were thinking of dolomitic stone ( similar to marble, not as stain resistant as quartzite) but after reading comments here, I decided for leathered TM. I do not want to worry, we cook a lot and are not super careful….Thank you. I will Post photos when ready, but here is the slab for now. It is polished, the stone place gets it honed or leathered. I like the look and feel of leathered stone.

Cabinet/Island Paint color with Taj Mahal Quartzite

I just got Taj Mahal install in our kitchen. I need help deciding paint color for my cabinets. I have narrowed down two options, one is Sherwin Williams accessible beige and other is oat milk (emerald designer collection). I have no window in kitchen but do have big windows in breakfast area. I always keep my daylight bulbs on in the kitchen when I am working. I also need help in deciding wall paint color too.

Oh wow, we had your exact sink until 8 months ago! Isn't that middle basin the most useless thing ever?! However, it did convince me that cast iron is the way to go; nearly 40 years old and still cleaned up really well! Here is our new Kohler cast iron low divide sink with our new honed Taj Mahal quartzite. We're still under construction but I was very excited about our new stuff. :) I researched Blanco and Elkay sinks but the reviews about staining on light colors scared me off. I grew up in a 1920s farmhouse that had the original cast iron sinks that still looked good, so that combined with my 1980s cast iron pushed me that direction.

Thanks Chispa, Yes I did ask if the black taurus can't be fitted correctly and look great I will have them remove it with replace with another slab. The black Taurus is really gorgeous and the Full wall backsplash against it looks really pretty but the gap kills it.

Is Taj Mahal in a higher price bracket? I have been looking at a granite like marble (Fantasy Brown) that is in price bracket D. Having trouble finding the lighter color. I love the look of Taj Mahal.

Yes, TM is usually a higher price bracket, but not the highest priced slabs out there! Some of it is market/region dependent. Inventory seems to be limited for most slabs due to covid and lots of shipments not making it to the US over the past year. I was talking to a fabricator this past week and she said that they have been waiting for some materials for months and they keep getting pushed back with no definite arrival dates.

I found some slabs in November for a future project. No guarantee that I would find anything similar when I would need them, so I bought them and they will sit there for several months. Wasn't about to plan a whole project and then have a major element be out of stock!
