early bloom in growers pot - too early?!
Comments (11)According to the Takii PDF file the Canna Cannova Seed strain has taken over 10 years for development to meet the cooler and shorter growing climate of northern Europe. These cannas should fit well within large areas in the United States. Producing F1 hybrids such as this is expensive and time consuming undertakings. They more importantly offer the consumer virus free cultivars that are difficult to find available from most sources. One’s other option would to be purchasing tissue cultured and virus indexed plugs which are also more expensive and definitely not widely available. Therefore, depending on the source, the price may not be out of line for the product in my opinion. Here in the states, I did find a listing for some of the Cannove series available from Ball Seed Co. Given the time of the year and the fact that this is a new product, the availability may be limited or gone. Takii introduced the Tropical Series of canna several years ago and seed became readily available. Kent...See MoreOT-Non AV Blooms 2021
Comments (18)I have a couple more lovelies to show on this thread. First my sininngia pusilla-I complained that it wasn't doing enough and after Irina gave me a polite talking to I took her advice and now I have a full pot! In fact it needs to be divided and spread out! lol Second is my brugmansia Charles Grimaldi, cuttings given to me by a friend late last fall. Hopefully they will bloom this year! And last but certainly not least,,,,,,begonia foliosa. A miniature leaf begonia that bloomed while she was rooting!!!!! I just love small things!!!!! I took these pix this morning because it was raining and so dark and dreary my cell phone camera didn't have to compete with the sunlight coming thru the window! Hope you enjoy them! Comments (173)Thank you all for the interesting questions and discussion involving T and TS! Paul, thank you for your photo and description. I 100% agree that MetteBee has TS. And Monarda your TS is lovely! TS is my absolute favorite rose. Ever. T is difficult to get and seems to be really mixed up with TS in commerce. Paul’s photo is a great reference! From a distance, T’s flowers resemble a yellow stamen-exposed variety like La Belle Sultane. Up close the blooms are usually a few petals fuller than La Belle. TS, on the other hand, is quite fluffy, even when exposing its stamens and even taking into account petal count variation and the age of individual blooms. Carol...See MoreBlooming August 2021
Comments (70)Woodyoak - it's surprising that your Heptacodium isn't blooming yet, mine started flowering this past weekend, lots of honeybees on it this evening. The recent dry weather is beginning to take a toll on some of my perennials, like the phlox (Bright Eyes) that has started to wilt/brown. Daylilies are about done but still a couple blooms/buds on Bitsy and Crimson Pirate. The 2 Rudbeckias I have (Henry Eilers and wild type Black-eyed Susans) are in full bloom (both tend to flop a bit). I have a large patch of Joe-Pye (Little Joe) that is in its prime and buzzing with bumblebees and the occasional Monarch. There is a patch of wild tall sunflower at the back of my property that really shines this time of year (also beloved by the bees). All photos taken within the last couple days (8/25-8/26)....See MoreDiane Brakefield
