Growing Canna in the shade in a container in Northern CA
Comments (1)In my experience, Canna do fine in varying degrees of shade. They don't always flower as profusely, but I haven't personally seen them stunted or suffering in shade. Mileage may vary, and others might say differently....See MoreFound a good way to grow canna from seed
Comments (11)Personally the boiling water method is unnecessary to me...I achieve max results by doing your first step hold them with pliers and sanding with a file or other means then I drop them in a jar of collected rain water. Next I observe a few days when the white nub appears I take it out and examine it further and if the skin flexes I peal the outer layer off then...and if not I put it back in the water until it is peal able. .but that step is also unnecessary cause all you really need is to see is growth (the embryo starting to emerge) and plant it as is and it will grow...All other steps are just us being impatient lol...See MoreWhy Grow Cannas?
Comments (0)Image by: Casper's Gardens Canna Pretoria Cannas are easy to grow from rhizome or seed. They add a tropical look to any garden with their big bold leaves and stunning flowers in various colors. They grow and multiply quickly and flower continuously until frost. They are often prized primarily for their large leaves and fast growth which can quickly transform a garden into a tropical paradise. In more tropical climates, cannas can grow and flower all year round. And while many plants wither away in the summer sun, cannas really kick in to show you just how magnificent they can be. Cannas also attract butterflies and hummingbirds. With the diversity in size and color, cannas are always great plants for any garden....See MoreHow do I grow cannas?
Comments (0)Cannas are one of the least demanding plants in existence. They love lots of water, although they can handle mild droughts as well. When they really need water, youll notice that their leaves begin to curl slightly, forming a cup. They also love lots of sun, a minimum of four hours a day. The more water and the more sun they get, the bigger and the better theyll grow. They will also grow in any kind of soil with ease, although they prefer loose, well-drained, fertile soil. They also benefit from an all-purpose fertilizer monthly. Lots of compost, composted manure, etc., will produce larger and better plants....See MoreL Clark (zone 4 WY)
