Curb Appeal Ideas Desperately Needed
Comments (6)I like the idea of the porch, but not that particular design. Part of the problem is the driveway goes right up to the house....makes it look too sterile and commercial. More green space with bigger shrubs in front of the house would help a lot. Maybe some hydrangeas? Window boxes would help a lot. The color is at once too dark and too light. If the logs were bigger and darker the log cabin look could work, if it were much lighter colored it would be cheerier. Also, the house and garage almost but don't quite match. Maybe paint it a redwood color, with a less neutral colored garage door? I recognize the instinct is to hide the garage door, but the garage door is too big to hide, and the attempt makes it look like a commercial building. A garage door with some trim or windows would make it look less commercial...perhaps red or green....See MoreAdding curb appeal. Ideas for front yard landscape please!
Comments (6)You have a nice wide path to the door. My first reaction was to think of what not to do. I have often seen in gardens like this a barricade of plants hiding access to the stairs. Like below. I have a personal dislike for this type of landscaping. Do you like gardening and how much time do you want to spend maintaining it? I see shade from what I presume is a tree. Could you post a photo that shows the tree? What is the tree off the left corner? As to the house, it is very nice and does not need to change. If you want to try something different you could paint the door a color and paint the garage doors a khaki or beige to make them less prominent....See MoreHelp Please! Comments (10)I think some kind of trellis or screening structure near the HVAC equipment or at the front edge of the roof as others suggested, could obscure the view. This is required in my area for commercial buildings with rooftop equipment. . In the "improve curb appeal" area, I think a lot can be done with your front yard. The side photo showing a glimpse of the neighbor's iron fence shows a walkway, a green shrub, and some grass. Your front yard could use some attractive landscaping. Or, if time or money is limited, put in some hard scaping - cover the dead lawn with a rock or gravel pattern and have an interesting center piece or two in the middle. Just something to make it look not-abandoned. Also, I think what looks like a chain-link gate to the left of the garage could be spruced up. Compare how it looks to the neighbor's redwood (?) or redwood colored wood fence on the other side of the yard. The wood fence looks attractive, the chain link gate looks scruffy. Good luck....See MoreEm Bee
