In my opinion, several of you ideas will work including the planter box, the column and the white wash. You do not have room for shutters in at least two locations, so I would not go in the that direction.

Dark gray or medium gray for the stucco above the brick - yes. Paint garage door to match the stucco color you ultimately choose. Paint your front door an accent color. Choose your accent color after you have painted the stucco and garage door. Your green front door might even work as is depending upon the stucco color you select. I like how these colors work with the brick on the insp pic below. Shutters - no. Remove them. You don't need them. It makes a huge difference on how your home is presented to the world. This house has a lot of potential. Find a new home for the trash cans. Replace the entry door and storm door with an updated version ( nothing fancy). The stormdoor should be full glass with the trim painted the same color as the door. Paint the house all one color. sage green with white trim, medium gray with white trim, etc . Then paint the door a nice contrasting color. I would try power washing the driveway rather than doing an expensive replacement. It can then be enhanced with large pots of flowers, etc. If the garage doors are functional paint them whatever color you paint the body of the house. Adding nice, larger lights by the entry door and near the garage doors would amp up the look. Invest in professional landscaping/ hardscaping. That alone will make this house sing.

IMO more bungalow than ranch. I really dislike grids in windows . You are going transitional inside can I see what you think is that style. I would aslo like to understand your idea of modern but not contemporary. I think the house is quite traditional so making it not that will involve a lot of work. I will say that huge tree I would take out for sure . It overwhelms the house and does not look at all attractive . I really dislike painted brick in fact IMO painting brick instantly devalues your home .So post better pics of the house exterior and show the brick. Post those pics in comments her in this post do not start another post..Remove the shutters and do not replace them , a new garage door in a style you like could be the driver of the rest of the exterior design so maybe start there Landscaping will be ahuge factor in how this looks and I love a walkway from the street to the front door it gives the home a welcoming feel and also allows for some more interesting landscaping.
