Need exterior paint help for 1925 bungalow-esque house!
Comments (3)Oh, thanks! I like the white trim, too. I tend to prefer stronger colors (we painted the door blue, from a very blah brown), but a "neutral" tone would probably give more options for landscaping. I'm leaning towards ... BM Brewster Gray or something along those lines? (With a red door?) My husband is voting for a light tan....See MoreExterior Paint Scheme for 1920's Craftsman/Bungalow
Comments (3)Its a very cute house. Congratulations on your new home. I dont blame you though, I would be wanting to paint too. That blue doesnt go with one darn thing. i do really like your brick, and it looks like it belongs on your house, please dont paint it. I would look really close at the brick, and the color of the mortar and pick a color of either the mortar or a color in the brick itself ad repaint that blue really fast. I would paint the window trim white, which is probably the way it was when the house was built. I cant tell exactly what color that foundation is, except that it is way too light. It makes the house look like its sitting on a big box on a green yard. Try and pick a color really close to the brick, or a darker gray or brown (I cant tell the color of your roof for sure) so that it looks grounded....See More1940s bungalow: please help me pick exterior colors ;)
Comments (16)Thanks everyone for the great tips. I'll drop the red trim idea. FWIW, here's an old picture before we repainted (pardon the car in the front, we'd just bought a Prius. Matches the trim of the house, lol). FWIW, I hated that bright red trim, though at Xmas the door looked pretty with a wreath. Brown Dog thanks for all the tips. (on the mock up, I ran out of time. I actually am supposed to be doing something else right now, now getting sucked into Houzz! ;) Thanks for the point of all the design elements fitting together. That's good advice. BTW, yes my gardening style is "controlled chaos." In that shot, the sweet peas were running a muck. ;) Another question: I am keeping these original windows but in the back, adding Marvin Ultimate (wood interior, alum exterior). The windows will be trimmed out to match the front. What color should I choose for the aluminum cladding in back/ I'm considering Coconut Cream, but there is Stone White or another ivory, Sierra White. thanks! https://www.marvin.com/our-products/options/exterior-finishes...See MorePlease Help!! -1912 Craftsman Bungalow curb appeal needed
Comments (7)Adorable house. Take the shutters off the front door and dormer window. Leave them off, they don't belong there. Fixing the front porch steps will go a long way. I agree that a knowledgable local nursery can help with foundation plantings. It's hard for us to address the plantings as we don't know where the house is located. Considering the red siding, a navy or black front door would be fun. Benjamin Moore Hale Navy is a great color, and you can never go wrong with black. Be very CAREFUL whenever you do replace the windows. To do them right and period appropriate will not be an inexpensive job. So many people slap on cheap vinyl windows that have nothing to do with the vintage of the home. Nothing bastardizes a house like the wrong cheap vinyl windows. My daughter is replacing her windows in phases so she can do them correctly. Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Enjoy....See MoreRachel Lee
