Design Dilemma living room Home Decorating

new living room switch

Recently switched rooms between living room and dining (kitchen is in the middle of both rooms as a galley kitchen) for a little more space needed for living room. New furniture and current furniture was used to complete the room. Any comments of adding or subtracting items. Style is mainly transitional/industrial farmhouse/rustic.

You have a lot of harsh lines in the room, maybe consider a round coffee table/ottoman? There are also a lot of little tables around the room making it feel cluttered. See if you can remove some of them. Does the leather chair have to stay in this room? If there is another spot for it I would get it out of there, it’s just too much furniture in my opinion.

Too much furniture. All dark colors, kind of boring. Rug is too small.

A few years ago we remodeled our house and so also needed to find ways to merge the new and old. Having a theme and some consistancy in terms of overall style and color scheme is very important. Get the bones right--as furniture can always be updated as you go along. One thing I never did, though at times wish I did, was to consult with an interior designer to help me with my color choices. Some of the best advice I received here on this board was not to rush it and take it one step at a time. Good decor is an evolutanary process that happens over many years. If you are putting in hardwood floors, then one of your first decisions may be to choose some area rugs and use those to build a color/fabric palate around.

The better (less confusing) way to check a switch is to disconnect it and test it with an ohm meter between the common and each of the traveler terminals. If you have continuity between the common and one traveler terminal when the switch is in one position, and between the common and the other traveler terminal when the switch is in the other position, then the switch is good. With the mtvhike method, it could still just be wired wrong. (Inconclusive) As you can see, there is more than one way that only one or zero terminals could be hot if it is wired wrong. Or even that all 3 terminals are hot.

I would use the space off the kitchen like a family room with the T.V there . The other space like a nice LR for adult conversation and why would you want a brown sofa when there is already so much brown in the space.With 2 kids I would be looking at getting rid of the carpet and getting wood floors and I for sure would not have T.V. in both spaces. I hate TV in my LR use that nice big space for some seating , not a sectional, that is conducive conversationand I would probably add a fireplace in that large space for a focal point.

try and post a few from diff areas so we can get an overall look. post the name and a good shot of the wall color. and post any pics that the new flooring will transition to the flooring you want to keep. that way we can see what we have to match.
