You could use propane, but I think that's inferior to NG, and more expensive. If I were doing it again, I would get an induction cooktop and forgo gas.

Depends on where the gas nodes are now and how much line you need run and where you live. Some online estimates are $12-25 per linear foot for just that, going from street to house can cost 2G+. Then there is the meter hookup, and then whatever the local rates are for installing pipes in your house. So at least a couple grand, and could run a few to many grand.

If you aren't close to a gas node, prices can go up from there. Like if the nearest node is a few hundred feet down the road, be prepared to possibly pay for those extra few hundred feet.

If gas is available spend the money to bring it in and look at upgrading the heating to hot water baseboard as well. You will never be sorry for having a high BTU stove and toasty warm heat.

Induction is faster to heat and change the heat level, way easier cleanup with just a paper towel and safer around kids. Look at the Bosch 800 range.

Call your utility company for info on the cost and timing for a gas line.

Prices vary so much. We paid $850 to the gas company to bring a gas line from the street in front to the house. But at a different house, the cost to get gas to the house from two houses away was going to be over $10k.

induction uses electricity but it isn't "electric". Do a search on induction - there are almost no complaints . Putting gas into a house can be expensive and probably isn't worth it if your only reason is a gas range at this point. Generac and water heater is another story

we looked a bring gas from the street. $1000 to run the line (about 50 feet) and then piping inside. That piping was about $2K just for the range. We went induction.

Depending where you are, there might also be a moratorium on new gas hookups here. We have that where I live (due to limited pipeline capacity).

Heat pump water heaters and heat pump ) mino-split heat are both well regarded around here, and it gets cold (-15) so they should work well most places. I would steer away from electric resistance heat if possible.

Generators can run on propane tanks, I believe. We went with a wood stove as backup instead - we can function fine with no electricity for a few days, but losing heat would be much more serious. Depends, again, on where you are.

I'd suggest induction instead of gas, particularly in your situation.
