I recently purchased the Hot Tools Prof 24k brush dryer and I really like it. It is similar to the Revlon brush dryer which also gets rave reviews. I watched a lot of youtube videos comparing them and the Hot Tools slightly edged out the Revlon and is $15-20 more.

I have not had my hair cut in over a year and it’s a mess (salon canceled on me and playing telephone tag to reschedule) so I haven’t really been able to “style” my hair with it yet, but I love how it grips the hair. I had a John Frieda I bought 6-7 years ago and I never had success with it and It’s really junk in comparison.

Don’t be intimidated by the size or shape—-enormous and oval——takes some practice but there are plenty of youtube tutorials.

This is not responsive to your question, but DD’s MIL recently gave her a Dyson hair dryer. DD has been amazed at how great it works.

I have 3 of the dryer brush things. Two Conair and one Revlon. The Revlon gets so hot I cannot use it anywhere near my head, face, or neck. I much prefer the Conair. However, I am not trying to straighten my hair with it. I’m trying to put a little curve on the ends. So YMMV.

bbstx——yes, I had forgotten, too hot has been a complaint of the Revlon but the tutorials suggest using it on the next setting down. I think they did say the Hot Tools does not get as hot on high but I have still been using it on the lower setting.

This isn't going to be what you are used to, but I wonder if wouldn't work for you. I'm reasonably good with my hair but have never been able to manage the attached brush type.

If at all interested, this rusk w8less hair blower is about the best I've had in decades.

I dry and style with this Denman free flow (wider spaced pins) D31 and never anything else. Like, for the last 40 years ;0) The first talented male stylist I saw was using one. I bought it and never looked back - replace with new as needed.

I'm usually blowing out to a smooth style, not embracing any natural wave....

I received the Revlon brush dryer for my birthday last year, and have barely touched my T3 dryer since then.

Eld—-IIRC from watching the youtube comparisons, the Hot tools one did not get as hot which is maybe why I decided to spend the extra $ on that one. Type in any brand you’re interested in on Youtube and there’s bound to be a video or 1,000.

Honestly, I never knew youtube had so much beauty info until I googled something over the holidays and a video popped up. Have been going down the hair, makeup, skin care rabbit holes ever since.

I bought the Rusk W8less based on recommendations here a year or so ago. Highly recommend!

I also just bought this styler from what I saw on the Today show Steals & Deals. I have not tried it yet. It just arrived.

I just got the revlon brush dryer thing and I love it. Most negative reviews I read complained of how big it was, but I have pretty thick shoulder length hair and it is perfect for me. It's like getting a big brush blow out every day. I usually dry my hair with my regular hair dryer (rusk w8less) until most of the water is out and then use the Revlon to finish it off.

I’m another W8less user based on previous recommendation here. Far superior to any other hairdryer I’ve had. I used to use one of those brush/dryer combos but somewhere along the line I learned how to use a dryer and round brush and it works even better with the professional level hairdryer.

What is different about the rusk w/8less hair dryer?

Jojoco: I hope you'll forgive the high-jack. I've been following along with interest. I could have written, almost word for word, your comments/questions.

I also have the Rusk W8less. It’s an awesome hairdryer but for one thing...the concentrator attachment keeps falling off. There’s no notch on the dryer nozzle by which to secure it. Minor quibble but it annoys me.

Lately I’ve embraced air drying. Whether I air dry or blow dry, in one hour it looks the same.

I bought the Dyson hair dryer last year and I experienced a noticeable difference in drying time. My hair still "looked" the same. This year I bought the Revlon dryer brush and just love it. The highest setting is hot as others have noticed. But I do get more of that salon blow-out look with this tool.

So now my routine is Dyson to rough dry and then Revlon brush dryer to finish. I would not have purchased the Dyson if I had gotten the Revlon first.

@lizbeth-gardener - re: the W8less - one thing different for me is that the temperature and air level controls are separate. So I can have it hot enough but not blowing my hair all over the place while I'm styling. It's also more powerful and even on low it dries my hair much faster than my old one. And something about all that makes it easier to get my hair smooth and style it as I want - it just turns out better, every time. I asked my hairstylist about it and she said having a more powerful dryer makes a noticeable difference.

I too dislike the way that attachment falls off and the cord is excessively long - both complaints I knew going in because the person who recommended it here mentioned them.

Those of you who are using the Revlon brush dryer, how long is your hair and how do you style it?

I bought one of those in the past year and have never used it. It just seems so big and heavy and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it. I like body and volume rather than smooth and sleek.

Post-2017 and pre-pandemic, mine was pretty short.

As I mentioned, the Revlon was so hot that it would burn when it got near my face or neck which was where I primarily needed it.

Post-pandemic, I’m wearing more of a Karen style (short bob). The Conair gives me a little volume and turns under the ends.

The Dyson styler has ALL the attachment you could possibly use! It’s pricy but very fun and effective!

Tootsie - that may be my 2022 purchase :)

I sent a text to my hairdresser to ask her opinion. She gave two recommendations: The Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Styler or the L'Ange Hair Le Volume 2-1 Voluminizing Brush Blow Dryer 60 mm. She went on to say "These are great and I highly recommend, I've seen people do some pretty bad damage to their hair by misusing this. Your hair can't be dripping wet, it should be a little dry before you put the brush blow dryer on it. So. either air dry for a little or blow it dry with the regular blow dryer a little before you use that tool"

I've googled review and youtube comparisons and because the L'ange seems to run a bit cooler and came in a smaller barrel size, I am going to get that one. Of course my first choice would be the Dyson, but I can't justify the $549 price tag (and I can usually justify any expense!)

Bunny—-on the youtube videos they are using it on chin length hair or longer. I would think they’re much too large to use on short hair.

I am a huge fan of the CHI Rocket Professional Hair Dryer. In the past I've always purchased whatever random hair dryer, but a friend recommended it and I've never looked back. My hair is much less frizzy and has less static. I think the price I last paid was around $55. I have very long hair and use it with a round brush and am very pleased with the results. Whenever I travel and have to use my cheap travel hair dryer, I can really tell the difference and miss my CHI. They don't last forever, but seem to last about 2 or 3 years with daily use. The one I bought says the dryer offers the following.

• Ceramic heats up faster and produces moist heat that dries hair 40% quicker
• Produces ionic positive energy and infuses moisture into the hair shaft; negative Ions also help to reduce frizziness and static electricity while leaving hair shiny and healthy
• Infrared light indicator on the side lets you know when you are producing infrared and ionic heat
• Lowest output of EMF (electro magnetic frequency)

I thought this was gimmicky at first but can happily say it does a much better job than any other dryer I've used. Hair dries very quickly and comes out silky and without frizz or static.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. My hair just skims my shoulders and I have a long neck. I like volume around the crown and a little bend at the bottom. Trying to avoid the extremes of too young and too old.

My favorite air brush dryer is the Infiniti Pro 2 in 1 Hot Air Brush, the one that comes with two brush heads. I use the brushier head 95% of the time. I chose the two head in one primarily because I can take the heads off and clean them, my previous airbrush was one piece and cleaning it was difficult. This air brush works great for me I have never been able to use a round brush successfully, with this tool I can tame most of the frizz and I have a lot of frizz. This is not my sole drying tool, I blow dry my hair about 80% dry with a standard blow dryer then finish off with the air brush. This air brush has dramatically improved my hair, very happy with it.

I have the Infiniti Pro Rotating Hair brush which dramatically smooths my hair or should I say this foreign, frizzy hair that has now inhabited my head. I tried an inexpensive infrared hairdryer that had great reviews for smoothing hair but it did not work for me.

I find the air brush dryers to be a game changer. In fact, because we travel a fair amount and they are not dual voltage, I just asked my European DIL (she LOVES hers, too) today whether they are sold in Europe. She said the European Amazon site she frequents carries 220 v so that will be my first purchase when we are able to travel overseas again as I'm quite certain I cannot be without one for any extended period of time.

And, while we're sort of on the subject, I recently purchased this heated brush and love, love, love it: I've always been a daily hair washer but between these two tools, I can now go two to three days between shampooing. I remember when I used to use a round brush dryer I had to buy one when I landed in Amsterdam - so dependent on it.

Ironically today when we were on a walk DH commented on the backup hairdryer he had to use when I took the W8less to the lake cabin with me. He doesn’t dry his hair very often but he was really disgusted with the old one and told me I should buy another W8less so I can leave one at home at all times. I promptly did just that. Having forgotten the “good” hairdryer at home once I knew exactly what he was talking about.

I love my Dyson. It was a splurge for me, but well worth it.

Happy update: love my new L'ange dryer. It is noticeably smaller than most of the ones I saw out there and works well for my just-above-shoulder hair length.

I had also been on the lookout for a smaller one and made a purchase just before L'ange launched theirs. The brush is detachable on mine (maybe L'ange's is, too?) which has been a great feature for packing. I've used several L'ange hair products and like them quite a bit. I'm glad you found a product you are happy with!

I bought the Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Styler about a year ago. I've long been a hot brush fan, but my old one had died off and was no longer being sold. It felt too big and unwieldy at first, but now I'm a convert. I have fine, shoulder length highlighted hair and use it for body and volume.

Revisiting this topic since my hair dryer died and I think I'll replace it with the Rusk w8less

and a hot brush. Due to nerve damage I have trouble holding heavy or bulky dryers so the Rusk look like the perfect choice.

gscience - how do you like the Instyler that you bought? My hair is relatively short and the barrel is only 1 1/4" so the size looks good.

If anyone is still looking for a dryer / brush combo, I’ll put in a plug for the John Frieda model. It’s much lighter weight than other brands and is one of the few with a round brush, not a flat or oval one. I’ve used this kind for years, and along the way have purchased bigger and better-reviewed ones that were just too big and too wide for me to use comfortably. The JF lasts between two and three years before the motor burns out, but for about $40 that’s an acceptable ongoing cost. If you prefer a round brush and a lighter tool, it’s the best. I haven’t tried the Dyson but have bought and returned several of the other brands mentioned here that were too big, too oval and too hot.

Thanks Kswl - it looks like a contender. I looked online and the handle isn't too big, the brush is round and the right size too. I feel like Goldilocks trying out the the Bears chairs.
