Weed identification

Hello. I have the weed in the picture attacking my lawn. I have tried certain weed killers and also ripped out down to the root the weed, but it keeps coming back. It’s almost like a vine while ripping it out. Any idea which weed this is and how I can eliminate it? Thank you for your help.

Where do you live and what kind of grass do you have? Herbicides are different for different grasses, and some locations have restrictions on what they sell.

Mr. Dchall. Been some time as you gave me great advice back with soybean mean for my precious house. Great to see your still helping out on these forums. I currently live down in SFLA and I have zoysi grass.

Sedges generally do not have rounded stems - they will be flattened or triangular in shape and solid....grasses are rounded and usually with hollow stems (although at that size, that may be hard to determine). Sedges also tend not have any sheaths (the dry material showing). In any case, if it is not something you want in your lawn, it is safe to consider it a weed :-) RoundUp/glyphosate will take care of it but it may need several applications before full control. And it will also kill off any of the desired turf grass it comes in contact with. It is also getting pretty late in the season to be overseeding in your area now. Tricky to get the new grass to grow and develop a decent root system before really cold weather sets in. You might want to repost this in theLawn Care forum. There are a couple of lawn gurus who frequently post there that are very good at ID'ing weed grasses and recommending specific herbicides that will address these and not kill off the rest of the lawn as well. And they can also explain the ins and outs of reseeding and when best to do so in your area. But I am afraid you might have missed the mark this season.

It does not look like Bermuda to me. But then, pics are hard to ID conclusively. I'm going by what you say and mfg. statement (Bermuda & annual rye.) A mulching mower should not be a reason the yard looks -- I guess you mean: UNlevel -- and uneven. Is your blade nice and sharp? If not, tune it up with a file.

The spiny one is a Bramble. Rubus species. The other two are tree seedlings but I don’t know which species.

You might already be in the period past when the grass is finally greening up. In fact you may never have seen dormancy in your area, but the point is to be past the spring green up before using Weed-b-Gon. It should take care of your broadleaf weeds in zoysia.

If that does not work in 3 weeks, then, since it is growing like a vine, you might try a totally different approach. I have had excellent success killing vining type weeds by sticking just the tip of one vine into a concentrate of 42% glyphosate. I used a bud vase and propped it up next to a cactus in the garden. I stuck the vine into the vase until it was in the liquid. I wasn't sure anything was happening until, SUDDENLY, the entire plant was dead, about 30 feet across. I had no idea how prevalent the weed was until it was dead.
