A serious decision - irreversible after 2/1
Comments (24)I understand your reasoning, Lilo. My mother kept hers awhile after she hung up her keys, and it never bothered me to still drive her or get things for her. But, I'll bet she had those very same feelings sometimes. I was very impressed that she hung them up so gracefully. She drove a car for the first time when she was ten years old, lol. Her gramps didn't drive, but owned a a car anyway, and he would call up Mama's cousin to drive it for him. Mama thought she'd surprise her gramps one day and cranked it up herself and drove to where he worked to pick him up. She said he nearly fainted. LOLOL. She loved to drive, and after Daddy died, in her eyes, it was 'independence'. She'd pack up her little white dog everyday and find an excuse to get out to run an errand of some sort. When the doc suggested it might be time, she asked me what I thought.......and I told her that although I felt she was still more than capable, if a fender bender ever happened, at her age people would assume it would have been automatically her fault. The quiest street she accessed had been made into a major city artery, and she also admitted after the fact that she was relieved she didn't have to do it anymore. She asked occasionally, even after she gave me her car, if I thought she could still handle one. I told her yes, (and although I was glad she wasn't, she prolly could have) it seemed to be enough for her....See MoreUPDATE: Birthday Bash 2009 Open Discussion round 3
Comments (110)Bunny I'm sorry the ick is running amuck in your household. Good thing the little ones can bounce back faster then us. I am amazed at how fast they can recoup and it takes us a WHOLE lot longer. I guess that is the price you pay for getting older. Thanks for the tips, but I don't like raspberry anything and for some reason just this year peppermint makes me sick I just can't stand the flavor anymore, and I LOVE peppermint candy canes! Don't know WHAT I am gonna do about that this Christmas, BUT I am thinking it is just the gum I was trying to chew. It was the extreme flavor burst stuff and it was overwhelming! Really turned my stomach though, so I am thinking it was just TOO much flavor from the gum. I will have to try to find some lavender oil to check that out. I am prone to sore throats, sinus issues and all which usually turn into a sore throat OR bronchitis which I have chronic bronchitis. SO ANYTIME I start getting sick I can almost always bet on a bout with that. That is ALWAYS fun to have too (yeah, ummm NOT!!!) NIKKI....I went outside while ago to just sit and stare at my seed babies I started. THEY are just sitting there too! I talked to my mom a few minutes ago and told her that, she said and THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING AS COLD AS THE NIGHTS ARE....bring them in the house! So I went outside after talking to her to "look" at them to try to figure out IF I want to go that route...I SHOULD have waited a bit before trying to start them BUT I wanted to see what they would do...oh well, I KNEW better, I WAS hoping the cold wouldn't reach us until Nov! Then they would have had time to do something. Deb, honey, how are you? How is your mom? I am sure you are busy with her this week. Just know that I am thinking of you both. Hoping for a speedy recovery with the surgery and praying all else falls into place and she is completely well soon. Vic, how was your first day at work? All is good I hope, hopefully this is your job you were hoping for. Mariann, I hope you are feeling better honey, I know how bad it was. Are you finally sleeping better now? Marie, just thought I would say HI!!! HI! lol. Kym, glad you cleaned out your email. I will shoot you a line just so you will have my new email addy so you won't have to go searching for it. How are you by the way? diene, how is your weather and you? Hope you are well. Haven't heard much from you lately. How's it going? Ok ya'll, you know it is less then a week away now...ARE WE READY???? I know you are Deb,,,hehe. Ok, guess I have said enough, and I like, Bunny prolly need to go lay back down...ugghhh!!! I HATE BEING SICK!!!! This is the 3rd stinking time this month! Seriously thinking about holding my nose and downing some Red Raspberry leaf tea! Or the extract......if it will boost me up, Bunny you SURE it will help? (grumbling, I really DON't LIKE raspberry, but I am WILLING to TRY anything at the moment)Humm, Bunny? Will it? Will it really? :) Fran...See MoreDecisions, decisions--pressure cooker or no?
Comments (23)I have 4 pressure cookers. I have been married 39 years and they are ones that I inherited and ones I got when I first got married. I can with the huge ones and the medium and small ones I use at least once or twice a week. I could not have raised 5 children and worked outside the home without them. Never had an accident, spill, or mishap with NONE of mine. I have them serviced EVERY spring. New parts that need to be replaced etc. THAT is the key to them and keeping them in TOP NOTCH CONDITION. One lady who's husband services my pressure cookers told me that if I ever wanted to sell mine that there were women who would buy mine. That there were alot of women who were wanting them because my were made by Presto and you could still get parts for them whereas Mirro only has after market parts. Also mine have the raised lids and you can even can in my smallest pressure cooker. (small jars for jellies, jams) I do not know much about today's pressure cookers but I dearly love mine...I assume they are probably "safer". But as far as working better,I doubt that I just am so fond of my old ones. Just can't teach this old dog new tricks. LOL...See MoreWhat to do about the Birthday Block Exchange for 2012 ?
Comments (26)This was my first year participating in the birthday block exchange and really enjoyed it. I found that I was making blocks I'd not have thought of making for myself, and then learned that I like a lot of patterns that I didn't think I would. Having the list by the beginning of the year worked well because my heaviest sewing time is winter and I got all my blocks made then. Now I just get to enjoy watching the process unroll. And I got my first block gift from Kate today! I love it and many thanks, Kate!!! So... that said, I'd be happy to participate in a 2012 birthday block with any who prefer not to sit out this year. Maybe there would only be enough people for 1 group. And I'd be glad to help with coordinating it, now that Michele is handling the monthly lotto. I doubt that I'd participate in any kind of notions/birthday gift exchange, as, like magothyrivergirl, I have plenty of those, more than I can find room for! Have never done a challenge, and would have to read the guidelines before committing to participate in one. But I doubt that I would.. I have enough challenges on the shelves of my quilting room! Just another two cents worth.. and we know what two cents is worth these days!...See Moremojomom
