What color and style of furniture would go with this rug?
So I have this rug I really love, which is a traditional Bokhari rug in a warm red. I am struggling to figure out what color seating furniture to go with it in my living room. I know the rug is very traditional, but I would like to keep the look a mix of contemporary and traditional. I'm planning to keep the walls white, and use art for interest and colors.
Would a green velvet sofa like this work? Or would that be too much color contrast? What colors should I get for other chairs? I'm completely lost, so any help would be appreciated.

Comments (3)You can go as large as to leave about 18" of floor around the perimeter, or you can wait until the bar stools are in place and see if leaving the same amount of floor exposed on all sides of the rug works. Painter's tape will be your friend in trying different sizes taped out on the floor. Comments (0)I'm somewhat stuck with the bedroom furniture that is shown in the photos so I need to find a dresser that would match or at least not look odd amongst these pieces. I was hoping for a black wood or darker brown, in a glam/transitional or even a Mediterranean style . as you can see from my rooms layout, it is oddly shaped so my only requirement is that it's tall instead of wide and the drawer are deep. Another option would be a lingerie chest and then a smaller 4 drawer dresser for sweaters, etc. my bed is a med. brown wood color with slight orange tones. Also pictures is a mirrored desk used as a makeup vanity with a matching mirror and a white/mirrored stool. then I have the large standing mirror that is a champagne gold. I've also got a sheepskin rug which I love and looks nice with the mirror I know, nothing is consistent. but for the foreseeable future I'm stuck with what I got so any ideas on a dresser that would not clash with these pieces would be great! also, I'm.currently at a loss for where to place my bedroom furniture! currently the vanity is against the diagonal wall, which looks nice but it leaves me with very few options for where to place the mirror. the bed needs to be on either long wall but I can't decide which. help!...See MorePLS HELP! PRO3 years agoTorquoise White Grey charcoal or Beige and Black could all coordinate with this rug. I think Turquoise might be the look you are going for though

3 years agoI grew up surrounded by antique Persian rugs in my grandparents’ house as well as my parents. They were always treated as neutrals and I am so glad I now never think about the rug matching the furnishings. Think Downton Abby or bohemian styles rather than property brothers’ wayfarer styles. I might be color blind to rugs by design but I am so happy to have not been bothered by their colors when choosing my furnishings and some how it all worked out in my home. I have aqua velvet sofas on a dark red Persian and love the room.

That is a fabulous rug, and I'm especially partial since I have a runner in my foyer that is nearly identical. You can absolutely treat even that brilliant ruby red as a neutral, and do not worry one bit about "matching" your furnishings to it or creating Christmas should you opt to inject a jolt of green. The green sofa would actually be fabulous. I personally love reds paired with all different colors, but am especially drawn to it with brownish leathers of all sorts. My artwork is vibrant and makes it all harmonize well, I think.
As the photos shared above so beautifully illustrate, you cannot go wrong so long as you work to balance your hues and layer in nuances. It's not as hard as it sounds; you seem to have a natural eye for it already.
ETA: I think I do have the runner version of your rug.
