Need help with seating.

We have a family of 6 and need help finding furniture that provides ample seating in our new home. I’m not sure how to set up this room. It’s long and skinny. We will have tv stand do Not want to Mount anything to walls and eventually we want to add free standing fireplace. Pictures of room attached.

So this is what I would suggest. Obviously, I don’t have room dimensions so this is just conceptual. When looking for a sectional, go with something with legs and not to bulky. I recommend taking painters tape and marking it out on the floor so you have exact dimensions. Also look at manufacturers that have an “apartment size” line. These tend to be smaller in scale overall. I would incorporate a free-standing fireplace into your tv console and also shelving units so that it feels like a built-in piece. Consider adding wall-mounted lights (plug-in) over the sofa and bookcases since you have no overhead lighting. You can hide the cords with covers that are paintable so they blend into the wall.

It's "French Provincial" that was popular in the 60's and 70's...maybe even started in the late 50's. Only sat on by adults wearing their good clothes. Never used for TV viewing, no kids nor dogs, no eating in that room unless it was a cocktail party and you were wearing pearls and high heels. LOL! Very nice...and I think you got a great buy! Clean it up a little and keep the kids and dogs off of it and never drink red wine anywhere near it! Linda C

smalloldhouse - thank you. That is very helpful. I am leaning towards the two sofas facing each other, simply because it provides more comfortable seating for a greater number of people. Your experience is very helpful. The TV angle is not ideal, but tv viewers have the basement tv and sectional. As for the tufting, I totally agree. I would order it without any tufting. As for perpendicular sofas - the asymmetry of having neither sofa centered on it's wall really bothered me. The window treatment to conceal the asymmetry with the windows is a good idea, but I prefer no window panels for this space. If I order the two two-seat sofas, I can try out the perpendicular arrangement to see what it's like in real life. I'm also not thrilled about not sitting in the sofa prior to purchase.

Help! Need a LARGE island with storage & seating ON CASTERS

We just did this! Everyone said it could not be done. Everyone said "why do you want your island to move?" Everyone said "Don't do that otherwise you can't have power (electricity) in the island." Everyone said "it will be too heavy for casters." Guess what? We did it and we LOVED it. In fact our contractor fought us on it and then after we forced him to do it, he admitted it was a great idea and he was going to recommend it to others. We have wine racks on one side with stools and plenty of storage on the other side - 2 cabinets, 2 top drawers and 2 deep pot drawers. It was the best thing we ever did, being able to move the island if we had to is key. Plus we don't need power in it as we have plenty of outlets elsewhere. The only hiccup was finding casters that were strong enough - because the island is 70x40 and with the granite it is very heavy. Home Depot doesn't really have the right size/weight so we had to order casters online.

I agree with Nancy that its a little hard to do without dimensions and I really like the fireplace console she suggested.

Depending also on the style you want for this room.

Below are some ideas for style and furniture placement with one very similar to what Nancy has noted as well but adding seating by your window.

You can select the layout you like then measure and tape out the size if pieces you need and the style you want to you'll the room together.
