Anyone have a 'pretty' bath with acrylic tub/shower combo??
Comments (7)Oops! My title may have sounded snobbish - lol! What I meant was - in my search for inspirations pictures, I am seeing so many bathrooms with gorgeous tiled showers, marble slabs, huge vanities, storage towers etc. and that is not the direction I am going in (and that are as bigger than my bedrooms) Weedyacres - Isn't it amazing what paint, tile and fixtures can do to perk up a "tired" bathroom. Great job -keeping things simple in a small bath. I did that to my DH's bath a couple of years ago. Painted a drab, worn builders oak vanity a gorgeous white, slapped a new Lowes stock faux granite top on it, painted the walls, etc. Gsciencechick - your sister's project sounds like mine. An "nice hotel" look is the direction I am kind of going in. It's called making the best of my space! I can't believe how expensive glass doors are - talk about sticker shock! I may have to clean up the stainless on the one's I have and re-use them. aa62579 - I'm actually going to have to take out a wall behind the existng unit which is my laundry room. I know -sounds likes overdoing it, but I really want to get it right - this will be my forever bath! If I do a solid piece unit, I will NEVER have to deal with caulk. We have looked at the separate pieces, but we don't think we can get these pieces through the regular door either. My project is not going to be easy! I'm actually going to be putting new flooring and woodwork down in the laundry, so might as well have both rooms torn up at once. When we do finally get to do ours, I may just line them up and have the upstairs baths redone too. I'd be happy to have that tub for one of them. Do you know Jason is the original Jacuzzi family? They sold the name and after a while got back into the trade with a new line -- Jason, for JAcuzzi and SON. They are not as well known a name, but they are good quality. The only concern I would have is the tub height, but that allows a decent bath where so many tubs are basically shower basins. Your guests can actually use the tub as a tub and not feel like they are in a kiddie pool brought indoors. Most of the things we have in our house have tradeoffs -- OMG, my ovens doesn't have a built-in rotisserie! Just kidding to make a point -- our grill has a rotisserie and I really couldn't see me needing one in the oven, but I still stopped and thought about it when we were making selections and it was the first thing that came to mind here. . Grab bars are a good idea, as is the curved shower curtain rod, regardless of the tub you use. If the step turns out to be a bit much, you might put a stool next to the tub so they can sit, scoot and swing their legs over. You might have to test a couple of step, stool or other ideas, but you will find a way. Worst case, would it really be so awful if your parents used your shower and you got to soak in the air tub? Yeah, definitely a First World problem, but you got a great deal on a very good tub you and your guests should be happy to have....See MoreBath tub selection
Comments (8)I bought a divided Americast kitchen sink a dozen years ago. A year or so later, it split open on the underside with a loud bang in the middle of the night. "Americast" is just adspeak for hard foam plastic. The company claimed bad installation. On top of that, the paint that they imply is as good as a glaze, ain't. Never again. >> Of course that is what my contractor wants to install due to the weight ...Tiling >> around will make it impossible to remove and replace. So the question >> is how to install it properly. Why is the GC calling the shots, especially on something that won't last long and is a major headache to replace? We all know the answer is that the GC is expecting it to last as long as the GC's warranty and after that it's a payable repair. And a boat payment....See MoreFound What Works On Fiberglass Showers and Tubs
Comments (55)For two years I struggled to keep our tub and shower clean. My husband works in a job where he gets full of grease. Two years ago when we had the tub and shower put in, it was stressed that the wrong cleaner could void the warranty. We tried what was recommended with no luck. It was just terrible. I was embarrassed for anyone to even see our tub and shower. A year or two ago I purchased Mr. Clean 2 in 1 Eraser. I had never tried it before. Ya know how you buy something and it sits under the kitchen sink forgotten about? Well, It resurfaced as I was cleaning this morning. I thought what the heck... I used it on my fiberglass tub and shower this morning. It was a fricken miracle. I really wish I had taken a before and after picture. It looks like the day they put it in new. Please just try it. You won't be sorry. I promise. It took about 10 minutes and it was in bad shape. Mr. Clean 2 in 1 Eraser. =-)...See MoreLindsay K
