Kitchen - no idea what cabinet hardware to choose

Hello, we have ordered our cabinets and I can no longer sleep. There is no going back now and I want to return my mindset to being as excited as I was when we decided to move forward on this project! Anyway, there are two concerns I have right now. First off, I am completely stuck on what cabinet hardware to purchase, including design and colour. Our "traditional - "farmhouse" look includes white dove cabinets, wide planked natural oak floors and countertops that are soft white (with some marbling of soft greys and golds). I have always loved the look of cap pulls & knobs but?... As you can see, I am all over the place and don't even know where to look for guidance anymore. Perhaps someone can recommend a particular website? Thanks for any feedback that you can provide. Secondly, and on a different topic, I am concerned one scale may look off - we have a 15-3/4" pull-out cabinet for trash and right next to it a 12.25" bank of drawers. Will this scale look okay? Sigh.

What style are your cabinets? The width of lower cabinets are a function of your space and desires for various functions. So, I would need your whole kitchen layout to check on look. Hardware will depend on cabinet and drawer style. Loads of good options.

Agreed. Pics would help. From your style I think we’re looking add polished nickel. Probably best option for you. Here are some I found. I really love the latch style ones. I’ve seen them. They’re gorgeous installed. ( specifically the first one)
It should say where you can find them. All those sites are great places for hardware searching.

How to post photos: Setup: 1) Go to photobucket.com and open a free account. 2) Follow their instructions for uploading your pics to their site. Now your pics are ready for posting on sites like GW! Posting pics in a GW message: 1) Begin the written portion of your posting on GW. 2) When you are ready to add your pics, simply open a new browser window and log into your photobucket account. 3) Go to 'My Album' & copy the 'HTML Code' underneath the photo you wish to add to your GW post. 4) Toggle back to the browser window with your GW posting, place the cursor where you want to pic to appear, right click and select 'paste'. Your pics will appear in the preview so you can ensure they appear properly before the final submission.(I know, this looks like a lot of potentially confusing steps, but trust me, once you copy the pics into your posts once or twice it's a piece of cake!) As far as hardware, you could easily go with oil rubbed bronze or venetian bronze, black, dark grey, or even brushed nickel. Your cabinet & glaze colors are neutrals so it will make it easier. I went through a similar dilemma myself. I have cream cabinets and a black island and had my heart set on ORB hardware. It really looked bad with the black (to my eye anyways) so I went with brushed nickel. I'm really happy with the end result. I think so long as you have some contrast between the ORB and your dark wood it should be fine, but try it out on a sample cab somewhere to see how it would look.

It's really a personal, aesthetic choice. Check out photos on Houzz & you'll see huge variation, and you can gauge which ones look good to you. A more modern look tends to be very long pulls - often on both drawers and all upper cabinets as well. A "rule of thumb" I've seen for drawers is making a pull 1/3 the size of the cabinet - but there's a lot of variation there, too. Really, it seems that are are no rules - there's only what you like. If you're planning on "aging in place", consensus seems to be that pulls are easier than knobs for arthritic hands. Again, look at photos, maybe do a search using keywords that reflect your kitchen/aesthetics: "traditional, cherry, black" PS: click on the above green "search" & scroll down to the photos

Thanks, everyone, for your input and kind words!! :) It sounds like folks fall on both sides of the debate - polished nickel vs. dark hardware. Keep the opinions coming! If you have any recs of a different type of pull, feel free to share! amyfgib - Thanks! It's hard to tell in the pics, but it’s oiled walnut. mrsshayne - Thanks! I really need to learn how to do mock-ups like that! Attached is a crude sketch of what I had in mind regarding placement of knobs and pulls. I was thinking two knobs on each of the three 36"-wide drawers b/c I tend to like that look (and it’s cheaper), but I also like the pulls that mrsshayne put there. I was thinking 6" pulls for the 18" drawers and trash pull-out and either 6” or 3” pulls hung vertically on the lower pantry doors, but am open to other suggestions! Thanks again!

The vast number of options can get any of us in a tizzy. Keep in mind the “comfort” factor of different styles. Old fashioned cup pulls are adorable and give the “farmhouse” feel. However, if you have long nails or anyone in the family has large hands, they might be annoying. If you use knobs, the “projection” of the stem matters if someone has big hands. Those two features alone will help eliminate some ideas. As for color, do you want something that stands out from your neutral palette (brushed brass or gold) or something that complements the veins in your stone (polished or brushed nickel)?
A farmhouse kitchen could be upper knobs and lower cup handles and look wonderful.
