I know there is a huge variety in roofing options these days. You might find something a little nicer than asphalt shingles or even just nice asphalt shingles. I know there are some replica slate products and other more architecturally interesting roofing options to look into. With the prominent roof line on your home, it might be worth the extra money. I also strongly support the idea of getting rid of every other round bush. I am generally not a fan of blob shaped bushes, so again I may be biased. The farthest right area of the last picture has more distance between the blobs and thus has some lovely structure. If you can do something similar around the rest of the garden, I think that would be a fantastic improvement. Overall your house is really cute with some interesting architecture. It also looks like a wonderful neighborhood with those large trees in back. I can't wait to see what you do with the home and hope you'll share pictures with your changes....See MoreNeed Help with Curb Appeal Design - 1920s Classic Colonial
Comments (12)I love it without the shutters, but since it's such a classic (and stunning) home, shutters are probably in order. I'll let others comment on that. What would add layering to what you think is a flat look is amazing landscaping. Get a designer from a small garden center to help design a landscaping plan that will add shapes, color, and depth to your beautiful house. Note: this house doesn't need shutters since the gardens add so much to the house....See MoreCurb Appeal Help for 1970 half stone colonial!
Comments (29)@jkissiah - Confession - I am using Microsoft Excel and the Windows Snipping tool to do the mockup - Most people have the same tools and can just cut and paste to make this type of "Mock Up". I just play with some of these tools more than some others due to my work. Color changes I did using SW Color Snap Visualizer. I don't know that I like the idea of a pergola, I would want the front look to continue across the front of the home, but I would consider sky lights over each window. I did simply show you what it would look like if it continued. I like it, but I agree with katinparadise - you have a pretty house and you have to know what the improvement would bring to your family and if it is worth the investment. Without doing anything else, I think you could improve the look with a little paint. I feel like the white is very bright in comparison to the stone. I don't think I would go gray - the roof is already gray and looking at the updated picture of the shutters - they are also more gray than blue. I think adding more gray will become a gray blob. However adding a creamy color will help blend the stone and the siding. I would keep the bright white windows and trim....See MoreGarrison Colonial Curb Appeal Help
Comments (3)Great home and yard to work with. Keeping in mind your current roof color and siding, I would keep the shutters and add some to the bottom window in a pacific blue color and your door in a Terra cotta color. A white carriage style garage door. if replacing the garage door isn't an option paint it white and get the magnetic handles and hinge decorative accents for it until then. Add white trellises over the garage and across the bottom of the second story. Flowers (lavender and rose trees) to line the driveway. a good flowering ground cover at the base if your tree and a mix of flowers to by the house to fill in flowers beds....See MoreUser
