Desperately seeking backsplash help for light granite counter!
Comments (18)You ALL are totally awesome for helping (sorry if I sound like a teenager!) Great ideas and advice. You all are so right about the paint color--I can see it now. Thanks for taking the time to show me examples! (The existing paint is actually more of a gold- but looks yellow in certain spots and colors). I love those examples of the darker red backsplashes, boxerpups, with cabinets similar in color to mine. Red wouldn't match anything in my house, (I know you weren't suggesting that)but maybe a burgandy or maroon or rust would! Noobee- I can't get over how that darker backsplash you did (in the cut and paste you did over my kitchen photo) makes the cabinets and granite pop and ties it all together. I love it! I think that seems to be heading in the right direction--though perhaps the exact colors and pattern need tweaking. I love the look! Though there isn't any actual brown in the granite, some of the garnet does appear brown-here and there. Do you think I'd need to have gray in the backsplash to tie in with the granite if I went darker, with mixed colors, like that? Also, Noobee, how DID you do that cut and paste-is that a paint program that comes with windows or adobe photoshop by any chance? I'd love to try and play with that myself. I have been visiting a few tile shops, and even the salespeople there have been having a hard time finding the right solution for me. One lady who was working with me is even a trained interior designer. She was thinking darker would work, too, but was having a hard time finding just the right tile. So I really appreciate your suggestions....See MoreHelp with backsplash
Comments (19)If you guys don't mind, I need some more feedback. We talked to our builder's interior designer, and she suggested a color that hadn't even crossed my mind: WHITE.. She put the whole package together, and it actually didn't look so bad. However, I'm still a bit hesitant since we have no other white elements in our kitchen. Even the granite has no white in it. (We do have white trimmings on baseboards and windows around the kitchen and the rest of the house, but that's about it.) We tried a few other solid colours like cream and beige, but they seemed to blend in with the wall too much. We also tried two or three tone mosaic glass tiles, and even though they seemed to go really well with the granite, they looked dull and boring when put together with the rest. Here's the white glass tile she suggests. Any feedback? Is it too stark? Should we go with something warmer? Just to refresh your memory, this is what the kitchen will look like (minus the paint and floor color.) Our cabs and counter will be the same....See MoreNeed Backsplash Ideas - chocolate cabs, dark green granite
Comments (21)This is where Oceanside sells odd lots online. They have 217 tiles in Cane Iridescent in a 3 x 6 tile. It is in a different shape, called "lune" (probably because its profile resembles a crescent moon). The center of each tile pillows out from the wall, making a ridged pattern. These tiles are half price, $1.49 each. Since they are not even offered in a 3 x 6 size, they must have been a special order. They also have 125 of 3 x 9 flat cane iridescent tiles for $3.49 each (reg $8). If you like tiny half-inch mosaics, they have 45 sheets of a color called "canary" that looks a golden pearl color for $19.99 per 12.75" sheet. There are sheets of Cane in 1 x 1 mosaics in iridescent, non-iridescent, and matte for $17.99 sq ft, too. Comments (16)wow, your kitchen is going to be gorgeous when you get the back splash in! thanks for the sneak peek :) i think something that is subway size/shape, but more of the cream color with some light taupe/beige color in it would look nice there....marblish looking. you are putting it against the brown granite, so you are putting it up against a more solid granite (non busy), therefore i would think something very slightly multi toned would be fine...and i do mean slightly so to keep from looking busy. did i even make that somewhat sensible?! i know what i have pictured in my mind, just having difficulty translating it into words!...See Morebarncatz
