How to get more fruit out of my tart cherry tree

hominamad

I have a tart cherry tree tree I now planted around 4-5 years ago. Each year I get more and more flowers, but it seems like so many of the flowers never turn to fruit. The ones that do turn to fruit aren't really great...they stay small, and hard, and are waaaay more sour than they should be.

What am I doing wrong here? Is there something I can try differently this year to encourage more and better fruit growth?

The only maintenance I really do is to trim the tree each Feb and March. I also add some fertilizer around it each year, usually in late April/early May (this variety is a late bloomer). Maybe I'm fertilizing too late? Not sure what else I can try. Any tips are much appreciated.. thanks!
