Awkward Entryway Remodel

Marissa Fischer

Looking for some ideas for my back entryway remodel. My garage is detached so this is the main door I enter. The awkward part is that the door opens toward the basement steps so I constantly find myself having to walk up a step toward the kitchen to open the door and then squeezing to the wall to close it behind me. I am looking for some ideas in terms of potential storage space for shoes, coat, etc, light fixture for mid century modern style, and any other suggestions! I have ripped out the old drop ceiling and box light and next will be repainting and ripping out the ledge with wood paneling going down the steps.

Note: I can’t turn the door into a sliding door due to the angle of the ceiling going down to the basement. Also, the back entryway landing is only 3’x3’.
