Yes, I have received roses with chopped roots and they grew fine. With the weird weather the last couple years, roses have been smaller than before. Amour de Molene is a popular rose and was sold out quickly so if it was me, I won't mind taking a chopped root rose vs no rose at all :) If I received 12 chopped root roses, I would give them a call. However, one out of 12, I think it's fine.

Last time because of the system lagging, I missed out on Pretty Jessica from PalatineRoses. I called them and asked if they had Pretty Jessica in any condition I would take it and they still said none left, lol. Please keep us update with its progress. Helen

@bayarea_girl thank you! I went ahead and planted it in yesterday's marathon planting session. But I will also let Palatine know, just in case it doesn't make it or does poorly. Also, I am learning that canadian bare roots are quite different than American bare root. American bare root plants are very big with chunkier roots wheras Canadian bare roots have more fibrous roots with smaller plants.

I usually find Palatine bare roots are bigger than others. One time I did get some really huge bare roots from somewhere else but most of them did not do well. I think Multiflora rootstock is good for my area. ( NC) I hope your plant does well. I once bought a smaller grade 1.2 plant, I think it was, from Palatine and it is a good sized plant now.

Would love to have Pretty Jessica grafted. My own root ones lack vigor.

@erasmus_gw I am in VA, this is the first time trying multiflora, glad to hear it does well. I did get pretty Jessica and a few other DA oldies, very excited to see how they will perform. They have all been put in 15 gal pots for the 1st year. Will report back

I have Amour de Molene from Palatine as well. I do seem to remember the roots being somewhat smaller than those of the other roses I ordered, but they weren't as short as yours. I have mine growing in a pot, here is it's very first bloom. Plant is vigorous and super healthy. Whatever the case of the roots on mine, it certainly overcame it!

purilisaVA-zone7 this is actually the very first bloom i've had on her, i just got her last fall. i can tell you every branch has multiple buds and the foliage is very healthy and green. she's a fast grower! and wonderful scent!!
