Need Help Finding Easter Baskets for 20 and 30-Somethings

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI always make up a favors/ tiny baskets for our Easter table. My adults are all in their 20s. Over the years I have used: large nut cups, plastic apple basket shaped, baskets in Easter colors, rectangle baskets meant for organization I think and built a gardening theme...This year I am using small metal pales.

Comments (111)sue, i'll be turbo grading on monday and tuesday, final papers as they write their final exams and then the exams as they come in, then the greenhouse on wed, then thursday my lit papers are due so a final batch of turbo grading, greenhouse friday sat and sunday, and grades are due monday so somewhere before then i have to add up all of those numbers. that will probably be my friday night, sitting on the couch, watching the thursday night tv shows online, and cursing at the calculator. i have done nothing in my garden un a long time, no transplanting of seedling yet. don't even have a plot dug up. rain rain rain. after next week, though, if no one else signs up for my 102 comp class (which would be BAD. if you know anyone desperate enough to pass comp 2 that they will come to waynesburg to do it, let me know LOL) i will only be working at the greenhouse until the last week of june, when i do my week long nature lit class. hopefully i can get everything planted out before the heat of july kicks in!!...See MoreCan I use something other that a pond basket for SWC?
Comments (16)I think I stole this idea from another poster. I use drainage pipe. http://www.garden.ie/gardeningskills.aspx?id=553 It's cheap, especially when bought in 100' rolls. Be sure and get the perforated kind. Comes in various diamteres. Assuming 5" diameter for this post It helps to have a mitre saw, or you will be sad. cut at 1" longer than the height you want your water tank at. So assuming 5", cut it 6". get a compass or similar tool and mark a circle on the tank part where you want the wicking basket to be. Make it a bit over the inner diameter of the drainage pipe. You have some wiggle room so don't be too nervous. get an left cut(if you're right handed) aviation snips and a box cutters. Like these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stanley-Aviation-Snip-Offset-2-14-567/dp/B0001IWB2G a thinner blade is better than the wide ones. on your circle, starting 1-1.5" outside, cut with the razor about 1/4 the way into the circle Kind of a pac man shape, with his tongue sticking out. Use aviation snips to cut the circle out. with a little practice, you can now screw the drainage pipe into the hole. I turned out 30 'tainers in... I'd dunno, a couple minutes each each this way. Extra credit: you have 2 of the same containers per earth'tainer. do NOT cut the other one to make a tank. instead cut 4 more drainage pipes at 5" lengths put container where you want it to be all season. drop one in each corner make the pac man hole /drainage pipe in the second container put in drainage pipe in second contanier drop container into first with he 4 5" pipes in each corner. fill with preferred mix. done. and you now have a ~5 gallon larger container for the same price. packs up nice and small at the end of season, and very quickly too. Comments (14)A 36" Subzero should not blow half of a 30k budget. A 48" sz has a street price of around 12-13k so 36" should be under 10k. If you go with the 60" range you'll be looking at another 12k or so. That's about 8-10k left for the rest. Not much since you'll want a decent hood but doable. Say 5k for hood system if you go 60" range. It'll be about 1k for a SZ beverage fridge and 1k (min) for a meile dw. 1.5k for speed oven. If I read your post correctly you won't need a wall oven if you get the 60" range. MW is up to you but count on $500-1500 for a built-in. Alternative is to go 48" which will knock about 3-4k off the range price and 1-2k off the hood price. That could easily get you a wall oven and warming drawer I think. I echo amcooks sentiments here. Range Hood - Look at Prestige,Independent,and Modern Aire. Look at their offerings. Give a call to the one you like the most to discuss your needs. Prestige places light bulbs in the middle to increase capture area but sacrifice a little lighting effiency. Comments (18)I too was going to suggest an alternative "basket". Possibly a nice basket they can use for storage, or perhaps a plastic tote? Backpack, fannypack, computer bag, etc. You can decorate it anyway you like. There's also the reuseable bags from stores they shop which is a gift that keeps giving if they get credit each time they use them. Otherwise, they take up virtually no room and can be used for a myriad of things. I really like your idea of the necessities and functional things. Especially for someone whose funds might be tight. And treats vary by person too. Perhaps some beef jerky, cheese, or a bottle of wine, etc, would be more appreciated than sweets to some. The spirit (no pun intended) is there. A friend of mine each year would give his grandmother a small but good ham, a small loaf of bakery/special bread, some of her favorite fresh veggies and a dessert of some sort. Sized in amounts she could handle with just a few leftovers if any. She loved to cook but Social Security was her sole income so some things like these were luxuries to her. She was thrilled at the thoughtfulness. Each person is different. Perhaps a prepaid phone card and your phone # on it? As a hint! ;) Gas card, prepaid Visa/MC will get used and appreciated. 3 years agoI am a super fan of the Caspari gift bags-- they are high quality and most have a nice handle. These are the smaller size -- some may be too small for your purposes?

In the meantime, I like these cute little reusable cubes that will double nicely as Easter baskets, plus you can choose from a variety of looks, feminine or not-so-feminine.
