Exterior house colors
NEED HELP choosing exterior house paint colors! Painter will be using Sherwin Williams paint and has suggested painting the body of the house white with black wood trim, black around the windows, black gutters, and a black door. Any opinions, suggestions, or recommendations are greatly appreciated!! Don’t know whether I should go with his suggestion or repaint house the color it is. Thanks so much for your help with this!

3 years agoMy advice is NEVER take advice from a painter! Lots of factors to consider: 1. Will in fit the community aesthetic? 2. Is it a trend? 3. Is it good for resale value? 4. Do you love it?
I did a not so great mock-up for you so you can get a feel for what it would look like. I’m guessing you are in FLA which isn’t jumping on the bandwagon of the whole Back/white modern farmhouse trend. I would suggest looking at new communities in your area and see what they are doing and look at homes with a black roof. Here are some ideas from where I live on the Treasure Coast for some pics for ideas.

Comments (13)Thanks, I have been looking for days online at Houzz and that is where my wife and I became interested in the beige color on the house in the link. Many of the pictures on Houzz don't list colors or do not contain info in the questions for the picture. Comments (6)I think you need to stick with darker or cooler colors. Beige and green don't go with light gray too well. I'd try a blue gray color with the white trim, or I think maybe even paint the house white and have dark gray trim with black shutters. How old is your roof? If it needs to be replaced soon, maybe you can just hold off and repaint once you get a new roof. Comments (4)I am someone who prefers to see bronze windows on darker homes anyway. However, I couldn't find any inspiration pics with Boothbay Gray. These are all darker than BG. Maybe one of the mockup artists will chime in. Comments (8)The color of the mortar between the bricks is often a good choice. I like sage green with brick. Then a shade or 2 darker for the trim. Remove the shutters - they're too small. Check with your garage door manufacturer, you may be able to add a row of windows for interest. Larger lights on the garage. Paint the storm door the same color as the door, it will stand out more. here's the black and white option, which looks nice.
paint the garage door the dark color
we have a rental house that was painted white stucco w/black trim and a red door.xeriscape front yard w/cobble stone walkway. (I wish the roof was a diff color like yours)
bring in a wood accent would also look nice.you could do a composite wood siding around the front door, or maybe even on the upper portion where it's now green.
this one has more of a tannish/taupe dark siding w/a bronze color trim. but notice how the warm wood accents around the door and planter really add some depth to the colors. do this w/yours
Hard to say because your pics are too close, and the hedges hide a good portion of the front of the home.please consider trimming those
I have a dark charcoal roof and did my stucco hom in these colors. swiss coffee on the stucco, the dark charcoal on the trim, and the platinum color was only on the fascia under the roof. I have wood accents like a cedar gate and wood look garage doors
it's hard to get a good pic, but here is the back that shows the colors along w/the wood accent.
here's the 3 colors in this shot and the wood look garage doors. (the sun is always behind the house so glare is horrible when taking a photo). Swiss Coffee looks pink here, but it's a bright white that looks great on the stucco.
give me some color combos you like and i'll give you the paint colors.
