I have Venetian gold granite and just recently renovated my kitchen. I have SW softer tan on my walls and it goes nicely with the granite. I have cherry cabinetry and a black island.

Our floors are imported cherry (that much I know). I've been using BM for this house. I'll dig out my SW deck. Not sure how I feel about tan...feels too close to beige to me! (we had a LOT of beige before when trying to sell a different house so I guess I'm beige-d out!) LOL

@Jessica You have a lovely kitchen. So much space to work and cook.

Is the mural important to you?

You could cut the sheetrock and try to save the piece of art and replace the sheet rock patching etc. That will cost money unless you are handy with sheet-rocking. Do you really love it? You could also photograph it and hire an artist to copy it. If it is valuable or important to you. keep it. But for me, I would not hesitate to paint over it and move on. A photo would be all I might keep of the pretty mural. Obviously the original owners did not mind leaving it.

It may be my monitor by the floors and the dark black cabinets seem to be battling a little with each other. Getting rid of the tuscan yellow walls will really improve that fight and your space. I would try to find a more creamy looking white if you must go white. What is the white color of the cabinets? Can you add brighter bulbs to the recessed lights? This will help get the space brighter too.

Are you keeping the other colors ? the maroon sponge painted great room, the library (BM Caribbean Blue Water), on the west wall. The doorway on the north wall leads to the breezeway (currently sponge painted yellow/gold with murals), the dining room (now BM Aura Matte Pacific Ocean Blue), and my office (BM Aura Matte Teal).

Venetian gold counters can sometimes look nice with creamy beige or greige colors. I agree with you Gray might not work as the floors may be a little too red to work with gray.

@Teresa Halley had a fantastic idea. If Softer Tan SW goes with your counters I would do that color.

What about a soft baby blue. I love Benjamin Moore Paints too. This suggestion is assuming that you will be painting the other rooms or find a blue paint that would work with them.

Yes, our flooring is more in the red-orange kind of line. The kitchen IS bright, it's just that flat sponge-painting in the orange and brown tones. It could be MORE bright with any other color. There are a whole slew of windows, and something like 18! lights in the kitchen. So light really is covered haha!

It is a great space. I found paint labeled "trim" in what looks to be dover white (label has paint on it! Blargh). My gut says that was used on the kitchen trim.

The mural is NOT important to me. They left behind their paperwork from when they got the place and...they had painters here for a very, very long time. Mural mania! I don't like the mural. Maybe if they'd used warm, brighter colors...but it's a bit drab for me. It was something I thought would be fun to leave behind for future homeowners, because I always loved when we'd find things like that in our previous old homes, but I don't think I can make that work. It's just too big.

Those are the blue rooms we have painted. That's the view from the kitchen looking towards the front of the house.

I do like Van Deusen. I've looked at that before. Ha! It's even missing from my paint deck so I guess I pulled it to look at it closer.

I hadn't thought about being able to do a color (like blue) in the kitchen. I don't know, I guess because it feels like there is a lot of color already, with the black and the beige and the white cabinets and island. I tend toward brighter, bolder colors, so I don't know if Van Deusen will do it for me or not...gotta go see if it's in the "paint chip drawer."

Since you didn't like the tan and creams I was trying to think of a color that might look nice with your reddish floors but still go with your granite, black and white cabs. You are right to consider that the trim paint is not white. That might be something to think about. I would want white.

When I was thinking of Blue I was thinking of a color like this with cherry floors. Of course you need to consider all the other colors you currently have and how you can make your spaces more cohesive. I would hire a decorator who can see in person your space and help you get the most bang for your buck. Maybe you have already hired one?

The gold mural sponge painted breezeway isn't staying that way.

Those are some thinks to think. I read on one décor blog NOT to use any green or blue wall paint with NVG counters. My gut says to go with some shade of white.

I'm leaning to pulling off the small door above one of the closets and having it color matched. There are too many paint cans to guess! They all look similar. It would be a fair amount of white, but there will be art on those larger wall spaces to break it up. At least it will feel fresh. I don't think I'd be happy with softer tan, even though it does look like a nice complement. I just can't beige it up again.

If anyone has done white with a color combo like I have, I would love to see it. I've been Google searching but it's nice to see something new.
