Awkward built in entertainment idea that needs help!!
Comments (53)We have something similar to yours in our basement family room.....only an entire wall and deep as well. We have a center opening like yours for a tv that is not quite as low as yours, and 3 deep drywall shelves on each side. We bought a 40" tv....couldn't fit anything larger and it works fine. For now I have a combination of books, photographs and a few odds and ends sitting among them. Not the ideal situation, but it's not in our main living area (we don't have a tv in the main living area). You could always put deep baskets in the two openings on the right (for blankets, pillows, magazines, etc). I like Robo's idea above....See MoreEntertainment Center needed?
Comments (12)I like Beverly's first picture. So glad she got rid of those weird yellow walls, because they were really bugging me! I like the look of having the natural wood bookcases as part of the main focal point, and some natural wood in the TV console also. If those bookcases are too shallow, perhaps they could be replaced with something slightly deeper. There seems to be room. Once they have some things in them they will look much better....See MoreNeed advice on how to center entertainment center
Comments (19)We are for sure doing away with the black trim! Lightening everything up! This house was added on to several times, which is why the layout isn’t what one would consider ideal. The wall with the large opening/thick black trim was actually an exterior wall at one point (the room in question didn’t exist then). At a point after that, the wall that will have the entertainment center was an exterior wall. Then they added the master suite onto that which is the doorway to the right of the entertainment center. I like the “open” concept with the large opening, but I also realize that comes to the detriment of easy furniture placement decisions. Only 2 doorways into the living room. One from the dining room, one from the master bedroom....See MoreIdeas for chairs and entertainment center
Comments (4)A pale color natural jute rug or fluffy white shag rug on the floor (think flokati...) could be nice...or a white Berber...something cool, visually quiet, and neutral to form a base for that happy sofa! Then you could try a couple of arm chairs in a subtle wide stripe of white with that soft blue that is the ground of the sofa print. The stripe would continue the tropical vibe without fighting with the bold colorful print on the sofa. Paddlerchick's stylistic suggestions for chairs are good, and yes, you should probably echo the wood tones of the rattan in finding an entertainment cabinet for the T.V. Or you might try a converted armoire cabinet in a rustic hand rubbed paint finish that echoes the pale blue color of the sofa again and pick up the wood tones for any sort of coffee table or occasional table that might be needed, Here, I would look for something with glass tops...think of the idea of clear pools of water contrasted with the wood and tropical vegetation suggested by your sofa. Above all, have fun with your new home and locale!...See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
