White cabinets or two tone? Staggered or Aligned?

Please help! I'm excited to design our new kitchen but I'd like some guidance.
Thank you so much!
1. We already have white tiled floor with light gray veins. What's are your thoughts about white kitchen cabinets on white tile floors? What do you think about two tone cabinets....light gray base and white uppers?
2. I also have vaulted ceiling, so I wanted to do double stacked cabinets (glass top cabinets) should I do staggered cabinets or align all same height?

Which do you prefer staggered or not? I think if you are going with stacked you may just want them to the ceiling assuming it's not vaulted no staggering. How high is the ceiling?

Do you have any photos of the current tile you have installed? Any dimensions or drawings of the space? There are some great kitchen enthusiasts on here that will be a wealth of knowledge on your project.

I forgot to add that I love two tone cabinets or islands in a different color. But you need to decide what you love. White kitchens with tile floors are very pretty.

I'm not sure how I feel about the staggered but the vaulted ceiling might make it look unique. It is an L-shaped kitchen. One side of the kitchen (sink, dishwasher), we have approx. 8' ceiling and the other wall is vaulted with estimated 12' ceiling (stove, fridge) Small 10'x10'. I attached a pic with similar layout and other with staggard. I was considering going all the way up for the side with 8' and continue with that same height on the wall with the vaulted ceiling. Will that look awkward?

I also attached a picture of a similar tile.

stephanj - yup, DIY projects will certainly test a marriage! ;) Another decision change here: since those two upper cabs over micro/fridge are on the opposite side of the kitchen and separate from my planned white cabs by the sink/window, I think I'm going to have those stained, too. That way, if I decide to do a full white on that accent wall, the stained cabinets may provide some nice contrast...just more thinking out loud. Re: BS, thankfully, we'd be adding only 12 sq ft by extending it to the top. Does that still qualify it as giant? :) Maybe the space just looks larger in the photo. I did my nerd thing last night, actually. :) Know what? It's a necessary step to take, and I promise it'll make you feel much less overwhelmed -- I know I do. Are you getting new cabinets or just reorganizing where things will go? If the former, here's another super, super helpful thread just on the topic of drawers. Scroll down about halfway, til you get to: This was such an eye opener for me, as up to now, I was applying vertical storage concepts only to pizza pans and cookie sheets. I was up and down out of my chair all night, measuring all my glass baking pans, casseroles, etc. Now I have to go weigh items (that I plan on storing in the same drawer) to see if I'll need to upgrade the drawer hardware -- knowing me, I will, just to be on the safe side. And absolutely LOVING this: Can you smell another DIY around the corner?! Because of the current configuration of my island and the way the downdraft ducting and electrical is set up down there, I'm going to end up with a (get this!) space in the left/front that measures 30" high x 24 wide x 12" deep. Goofy/Wasted space (I think) to put a stack of drawers there (each one would have, what, about 10" front-to-back length of usable space?). I wanna hang one of these across the top of the space (so, sitting just under the granite top), and hang my everyday skilles, pots, etc. off here. I wonder if these hooks are on a sliding rail: how cool would THAT be, to accommodate pans/pots of varying heights?!

Thanks for the additional advise! Well, we were sure we wanted the pewter color for the island, so I ordered enough of that for this purpose. It looks great on the dark blue/grey and looked good on the then still wooden perimeter cabinets. So I went ahead and ordered the additional ones needed for the perimeter of the kitchen. Now that I’m nearly done painting (some more drying time for the doors), and having seen a white kitchen with black hardware again at the big blue Swedish store, I revisited my decision. I didn’t unpack the ordered hardware yet and ordered a couple of the wrought iron/black ones today. I’m holding off on installing the doors until the black ones come in to have a side by side comparison. I’m still within the return window of the hardware and would only lose the shipping costs. So we’ll see.

Hi edelweiss- I am not sure how the wood lowers and white uppers will look to you 10 years down the line when it isn't so in style. Have you thought about doing all the uppers and lowers the same wood, with maybe two uppers glass? You could frost the glass or even just put an inexpensive peel-on film over the glass if you don't want the contents easily visualized. Then you could paint the island whatever color you want. Either white, or even that red that you like. With two different color cabinetry, (on the periphery and the island) I would not have a different type of counter top on the island, unless it were to be butcher block. I would also not get a red range top. Your tastes may change and a range top is very expensive to replace. Or you may need replacement parts, and red may not be available. Or you may sell, and red is very taste specific, and that may be a deal breaker.

I like both but do favor the lighter for now. I thought about herringbone but decided on brick lay as you see from my pic. I chose that bc I also picked a tonal tile with 3 shades for texture & interest wo being too busy (see pic) & chose grout to match tile not counter. My tile is 2 1/2” x 5”, Ztile Melange, Green Tea color. Looks gray! My advice to pass along on picking BS is to ”wait until the countertops are installed”! I’m so glad I did. I .read that over & over from Houzz Pros too. I took the advice to heart bc the person at countertop company told me to just wait! I had narrowed my choice down to 2, which it looks like you have done. Once tops were in I did a 180 change on BS tile I’d decided on & went with my second choice. And I was looking at multiple pieces of the 2 tiles to get a better idea. A surprise to me for sure that I changed. All of those whose opinions I’d solicited also seemed amazed at difference in look sitting on top of new counter. And, I solicited opinions from every trades person in my kitchen as well as friends & neighbors! 99% of them changed their pick after counters in too. Reason is that until counter is in, you’re looking at a small sample and a huge vertical slab. Light hits the counter very differently on the horizontal & in your home light. The BS tile as well. So, make sure both of your picks are available on quick turnaround & just wait. BTW, at this point, my pick for you is lighter tile Bc I Like it better with darker cabinets & tile will be right next to cabinet color next to frig. When I look at BS my eye goes down not up so I see base cabs more. Love your counter & cab together.

My estimate for the ceiling may be way off as the vaulted ceiling is really high, maybe 20'. The lower side is about 10' instead of the 8' previously mentioned.

I hope some kitchen designers pipe in to give you their valued opinion.

I have 10 foot ceilings and did not go with stacked. I thought i was not going to have enough space for the top cabinets and they would look squatty. I trusted my KD and my GC. We thought it was not going to work in my space. But I sure love the look. Everyone is different. If you think it will look good and can fit in your space you will create a space you love. I think the idea of carrying the height all the way around to the vaulted side is good one. Do you have photos of this vaulted space?

Two things...white and gray kitchens are sort of everywhere these days..and ...upper or irregular height ...cabinets are not always “useful” enough to justify the cost...and are also a little trendy...with angled ceilings and architecture a feature of your home..the less busy the plan the better...
