Hi, I've done "regular" embriodery and crewel embriodery. "regular" is done with embriodery floss which is 6 strands of thread wound together. When embriodering you can use anyway from one to six strands. Crewel is done using yarn as mentioned. Regular and crewel embriodery use the same stitches. I just found one website that shows lots of stitches: inaminuteago.com/stitchdict/stitch. You can also get booklets with illustrations of stitches to help you. You can usually figure it out from the pictures, but it can be helpful to have someone actually show you some of the more complicated stitches. I find it a very relaxing hobby, tho I do put it down for long stretches at a time. I used to prefer crewel as I thought you could see mistakes easier with floss LOL, but have found embriodery done with floss can be very pretty and no, the mistakes don't show that much. I really want to try machine embriodery but am afraid it is putting an end to hand embriodery which will be a sad thing. I haven't tried cross stitch. Oh, forgot to mention these embroideries are done on stamped cloth. Hope you try it and have fun with it. Sally

I haven't used the heat transfer paper but I have used regular erasable transfer paper. I think it works well and can be purchased at Joann's. The package comes with several different colors of transfer, the lighter ones for darks, etc. I printed one design layed it over the transfer paper and layed that right on my fabric and traced it. If you don't have to do a lot, this would work. Otherwise tracing each one would be time consuming.

HI dancing girl ! Alot has happened since I purchased my pe scan! 2 new embroidery machines 1 old version of Disney then a new version of brother embroidery machine ....I haven used my pe scan but once! I tryed using it yesterday. ....it no longer works! Tryed looking it up on brother website but there is no such item must be so outdated! I took it apart today and fuse is black I need a new fuse ! But I don't know what kind of fuse it is! Brother is closed on Sunday :(. Maybe you know someone with this information the rest of the machine is pristine! But the fuse! ...I JUST ORDER THE BROTHER SCAN N CUT LAST WEEK! I'm so excited I'm wondering if I need this machine anymore now that I have the scan and cut I might be able just to transfer to pe design after I scan on cut n scan or I can just transfer it to my machine after that it sounds complicated to me so if I have to but a new one I might just get the flip pro scanner for brother I found one for 135.oo. so I have to wait till next month unless the cut n scan works?? If anyone knows anything about the only fuse that's inside the pe scan let me know ! I like to use this for lace if I can fix it! Thank you so much!! Dancing girl! !

I love to embroider the "old fashioned way" by hand instead of by machine. Actually my machine is old fashioned too and only does limited embroidery. I am trying to find a celestial or metaphysical set of transfers that can be put on velvet so they can't be iron on transfers, but after searching for over 18 months and being artistically challenged myself (so I can't draw them) I have been unable to find anything. Does someone have a suggestion as to where they can be found? This is to be a centerpiece for a comforter so it needs to be a fairly large design.
