In my view, you need some color or pattern or maybe just softness in there. Consider a Roman shade over the window hung to the ceiling to disguise the fact that the window is shorter than the cabinets.

I think is the backsplash- it should go all the way to the ceiling. It’ll help a whole lot.

Also the hardware. The lowers look like they need knobs.

We do use the upper cabinets. I had considered replacing them more open shelving but I would prefer closed storage.

I would mount shades above the window to take up more space. I also Agee that you need to add some softness. I am not sure about the tile because not sure where it would end. When I read text I thought it would be bad. I think it’s a nice looking kitchen and does not scream budget kitchen.

It looka like there’s a short gap between the top of the cabinets and ceiling. An inexpensive and simpl solution is to add a piece over the cabinets, connecting the two cabinets and hang a Roman shade curtain from it. It would add the decorative effect without taking away any light, plus would tie all three pieces together into one cohesive wall.

I would consider mounting them a little higher so they reach the ceiling, then add backsplash up to the level on the other wall. They just seem a bit un-anchored since they float below the ceiling.

They look fine for me.

Is that your only sink? How big is it?

I loooove those handles on your cabinets. That style is recommended in universal design because other styles (like knobs) are difficult for folks with arthritis. I love that they're black, too.

I would just make those open shelves go around the corner so they abut the upper cabinet.

I like your cabinets, too. They keep the room nice and bright. IMO you've done a great job on a budget.

The one thing I don't like is the flange on top and bottom of the wall cabinets, but maybe your cabinets didn't come in taller sizes? That happened to me. I ended up lowering mine, and abutting them to a soffit above. This is all personal preference, though. No biggie.

I think your kitchen is LOVELY. Maybe 'cos it's a larger (and nicer) version of mine, black countertop and all.

S G ... great question! I was so focused on the cabinetry (which looks fine to me) I didn’t notice the sink! Now I am obsessed with it. Overall, OP, I personally think your kitchen is lovely.

I think what @HU-1615699626 is describing is called a pelmet. You'd put a pelmet above the window to fill in the space a bit. If it were me, I wouldn't put a curtain there (I like looking out through a big window and very simple decor), but that's a taste thing.

I like the cabinets too, but, I also agree with who ever it was above, that said, it needs color and softness. It just looks a little bland and uninteresting. A rug on the floor, a shade, or curtain, or something on that window, a few colorful accessories, and it will be perfect. It is already a well done room. Like others, I do have a question, whether there is another sink, since that one is teeny tiny.

get a great wood pole in a shade close to the great floor.....rings and just put a sheer up if nothing else. OR, You can do a valance at the top only, w solar shade or cellular shade for looks and also light filtering. A runner or mats on floor.....put some decorative canisters on the counter. I wouldn't alter all your work . There is a lot of interest on that stove wall. The window wall is fine/use the cabinets ...just do something at the window ...a customized treatment is a bit of investment even if its simple. It will take you to the finish line.

Thank you all for the advice! I totally agree with the adding softness with some sort of window treatment, that’s a great idea. That sink in the photos is our prep sink, our main sink is in the island. I appreciate all the help!

Well that’s a relief. Can we see a photo of the entire kitchen? The location under the window seems like the logical place for a larger sink but perhaps your layout lends itself to another place for the sink.

I wouldn’t change any of it. Yes, we can all nit pick until the cows come home, but it is not necessary.

You have a lovely kitchen as is. Yes, add a curtain for color and softness. Done!
