Prime the walls with white primer. Switch to "bright white" bulbs with a color temperature in between "soft white" and "daylight". Then you can pick out a new off white without yellow reflections on all your samples.

Good idea. You can see my piece of white poster board trying to get a “clean” spot to focus on. I just need to prime at least one whole wall to get a rid of that yellow cast on everything.

Thank you! I’ve been learning about the Kelvin scale. I found a brand I liked and discovered it was about 3000 where the other was 2700 and both soft white like you said. The 3k was so much nicer!

I am thinking that painting only one wall with white primer will not solve your reflection problem, as side walls will still throw yellow into the area. Do as Apple Pie Order suggested and just prime the whole room. It will keep your new paint from having a yellow cast, too.

@lwfromny is there a brand you recommend that has the 3k range. The old owners left a ton of bulbs and I'm inspecting each one for details and all in the 2800 or 5k ranges. I know Target used to make one yrs ago I found but last time I couldn't find it.

I’ve just spent hours researching lightbulbs!! Lowe’s only has 2700k and 5k BR30 bulbs so I’ve had to check Amazon. Found some 3000k w mostly good reviews so we’ll see.

I did try some GE reveal “best light” at 2850.

While it did make a difference before and after within the shower area there’s still a big difference between the dark and light areas overall.

Has anyone tried a daylight bulb in 1 corner to balance out the daylight!

I prefer the ones that say daylight on the box and 4000k I dont think they look clinical, unless of course, everything you own is white.

It’s definitely all in the eye of the beholder 😊 - everyone has different opinions. I don’t use any particular brand. I do like Cree a lot, and many people like Feit. They both tend to have a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 90 or higher. CRI is a measure of how accurately the light will make the colors in your home appear. Whereas Kelvin is the color of the light emitted by the bulb. Ideally you want the Kelvin you prefer, with a CRI of 90 if you can find it, or 80 if you can’t. No lower than 80. Most brands will be 80. Not all manufacturers list their CRI in their specifications though.

With regard to the kelvin of recessed lights - you can buy recessed bulbs now that have adjustable kelvin, so you can experiment with different levels and see what you like. The ones I’ve seen have an option of 3000, 4000, or 5000k.

Just had Amazon deliver some 3500k and wow what a difference that neutral light makes. And getting rid of the PAR base bulb and switching to a BR type. I didn’t realize how shadowy the PAR bulbs made things! Who would put that in a bathroom over the mirror? The shadows I had on my face was ridiculous. I thought this house had aged me!! 😜 although researching lightbulbs to the extent I have may.
