Best kitchen island pendant for my space?
Coming into the closing stretched of my renovation and thanks to some great thoughts from folks on Houzz our kitchen is rounding into form. We are down to our last meaningful decision and its all about these pendants.
We think we have found the pendants of our dreams at Rejuvenation. I've been struggling to visualize them, so I made cardboard cutouts and hung them. I really like them and I think I am going to love them in my space, but I have two big hesitations: (1) I have beautiful floor to ceiling windows opposite my kitchen and I am worried about blocking that view from the kitchen, so i have to go with 2-4" of hanging cord from the ceiling, which lead me to (2) I am afraid the short court coupled with my low ceiling (8') and beam that hangs down over my island 3", will look odd.

Comments (11)Good stuff from Beverly above. If you're a visual person (like me) you can also try the balloon trick. Blow up some balloons to be the same size as the lights (as close as possible.) Or you could mock something up with cardboard which would work well since your lights are rectangular (and very cool by the way.) Then hang your mockups on strings from the ceiling. You can play with positioning and length of string to see what you think. Stand by them to check your sight lines when working at the counter, and check them from further away to see how they look. I did this when I replaced a light in my kitchen with a light that has 3 separate globes that can be hung at different heights. I moved my table under the mocked up "light", sat the kids down for dinner, and fiddled around with the strings until I was happy with the heights of the balloons compared to the table. With that, if you're interested in a big open lantern look but in a different finish, we do have these options from the Savoy House Townsend family. Comments (17)Hi Lizzie, The bottom of the pendant should be at least 75-90cm / 30” from the surface of the island. Pendant lights should be hung around 72” from the floor to the base of the light fixture. Good proportion practice should be exercised when hanging lights over a kitchen island, with equal space left between each pendant. Approximately 75cm (this depends on the diameter width). Smaller diameters can support a smaller gap between each fitting. 2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoI just realized that I made a mistake in my 24” prototype. the rejuvenation website says that the height of the shade is only 16” i have it as 24” here. I will redo my prototype shortly. 🙄
