tnpd, thanks! The color is called 'Mint Tea,' but I'm afraid it is only available through the regional hardware store called BTU here in the Southwest. It is their house brand paint, but I'm sure there are many well-known, widely available brands that would have a very similar color. It's a minty, icy green-blue, as you can see, more green than blue. Our house is an old, early 1890's Victorian home that had some very dominant Arts & Crafts modifications added in the early 1920's. I decided that dark trim was most appropriate to the very prominent Arts & Crafts detailing, but we weren't going to strip the paint off all the trim in the whole house in order to stain it darker as is found in Arts & Crafts styled homes, and it appears to be pine trim anyway. The compromise was to paint the trim in shades of brown that would go with the wood floors and the Arts & Crafts details.

I've painted far more doors than I care to remember... I would make sure the basement temp is acceptable. I like to be about midrange for what they recommend. Also, you might make out better painting the doors while they are upright. I generally stand them upright and have the upper edge only leaning on something. Recently I've taken to priming them, doing a light sanding and cleanup and then hang them and paint them in place. I personally don't consider a coat finished or cured enough to put pressure on it for at least 24 hours and that seems to work fine. Otherwise I end up with sticking like you did. I hope that helps!

It would look dark and ugly. Dark brown paint isn't attractive like stain & poly because it hides the woodgrain. White is your best option.

Hi, just wondering if you have much painting experience? Lori is right Breakthrough is good paint, yes pricey. The problem being is dries very fast and likely if you don't paint for a living it may not turn out well because it will be drying on you faster than you are able to complete it. With any paint there is a learning curve, as is there for painting and finishing things to give you the best results in both appearance and durability. Many journeyman painters could write you a long script on the product and process to do this and give you nice results but that does not necessarily mean it will turn as wanted. My processes on finishing things depend on many factors often like: surface temperature, air temperature, product being used. What style of door? 6 panel? flat? The less panels the quicker it is to do, the easier to get better looking results. I would maybe try doing the door in BM Advance, or another paint stores waterborne hybrids.
