yes, I would leave the brick and paint all the wood in some tone from the brick.

Do not paint the brick.

I'd be inclined to paint the bay windows in tone with the brick.

I'd paint the porch area much lighter, like a pale taupe or a dark off-white. Same shade for the dormers.

I would use white for the trim because of the white widows.

Go to one of the paint sites and try out some colors.

Once you pick colors buy test samples to try in daylight at the site.

Do not paint the brick. You will be happier bringing out a color from the brick rather than the mortar. The railing and seps should be same colour as window trim OR doors. You will have green grass and plants eventually in front too.

The house has nice brick. I would not paint it. It has more character as is and requires much less maintenance.

IMO the fastest way to devalue a house is to pain the brick and in your case the brick is what makes the house special. I think I need to know abit about your style you were going for with the renovation IMO the bay windows should not have been done but that is more my personl idea. As for color this is my fave with brick

Paint on brick will peel over time. Consider Limewash instead. It is designed to be applied to brick. See videos of it being applied on YouTube.

If you want to paint it paint it! Make sure the prep is correct people paint brick everyday. We have the same brick and we are painting it asap we are going with this color scheme. Google painted (your style house) and look at lots of pics it will help!

Your windows are white. I would paint all the “wood” on your home white. Then assess the brick. Live with it for a while. Or...do a wash on it. The brick is actually very nice looking and adds character to your home. My one thought is that you revisit the spindles on your porch. They have the look of a prefabricated deck railing, not an intentional porch railing. Perhaps if the top and bottom were encased with wood to finish them out, they would appear more “custom.” Nice job in updating and refreshing your home!

Thank you all so much! I really like the ideas that everyone has posted. I'm the one that doesn't want to paint the brick and it's my husband that wants to paint it all white. There are several brick homes in our area that have been remodeled and painted all white with black or dark trim. It looks good on those homes (many were the bright red), but they also had black trim windows.

I'll attach pics below of what this house looked like when we bought it 2 years ago. It was built in 1993, but looked like a house from the 70's. It had a 3.5 foot sunken living room that took up the main living area of the entire home. It was navy blue carpet, navy countertops, navy flowery wall paper, etc.

This home is in a lake community. We gutted the inside and added 2 additions. I'll post pics of inside too.

It appears you cleaned the brick and gosh does it look better! Very seldom is painting a change that works for the long haul. Your brick is not TOO RED. It's pretty neutral really. I see no positive in adding maintenance to a home if not for you for the next owner.

@arcy_gw Yes, we had it pressure washed and it does look much better. I honestly like the color of the brick because it is more of a neutral than some of the bright & dark reds that I've seen painted. I don't want to paint over it, but my husband does. That's why I posted on here so he could see what others think.

Barbie, if DH wants to paint it. say the Austin is, dear, do you want to repaint the brick and repaint the brick and repaint the brick.... 😉 it's a pretty color as is. You already have good answers. Just wanted to say you've done a great job!

Too bad you didn't come here for advice on that porch railing. It is the item that brings down the house in looks and possibly in value. You might remove and re-use it in the back for a deck. The front porch needs to have appropriate railing (not the Victorian style that was original either) to give the home some character, beauty and value. I think all the yellow parts and a new railing should be white, the brick should be left as is. Make your front door the focus.

Very glad you removed the dental moulding as well as the moulding on the two bay windows. Am torn on painting the house or not. On the one hand I think it would help unify the fascade but the brick isn't bad looking and, once you paint brick you can't unpaint it. Would recommend adding gutters and downspouts though. That may be your plan. Would also give a lot of thought to landscaping. That will go a long way to unify the front of your house into a nice composition. Good luck!

@decoenthusiaste What do you recommend for the front porch and railings? We will be building a back deck, so we could reuse. I did not have a say in this as the builder and my husband picked out materials. I was just told we would have cedar railings, etc.

These are some interior pics. We still have punch out items left to do. One pic is of the covered back porch with cedar beams and tongue and groove ceiling. We will be adding a back deck.

We won't be leaving the tv on the mantle. We just put it there when we stayed over the weekend for my son's birthday :)

We also discussed taking away the bay windows, but we were already doing so much- that we just went with replacing all of the windows. We do like the light that the bay windows give as well as the view since we are able to the see the lake. And my son is 6 yrs old, so it gave him a window seat with a toy chest in the space in his bedroom.

No, do not paint the brick, it is what makes your house look so nice. Paint the other parts with a color from your brick.

Here's a nice one. Notice the balusters are anchored in a flat stringer, not just nailed to a vertical one. The railings are not as bulky have a bit of detail to add interest.

You could even think about the more modern horizontal wire railings, anchored with cedar posts. Just a thought....

I think the home's style is too traditional for wire railings.
