Help choosing paint color to complement wood tones in dining room
Comments (3)Again, there are so many blues and grays out there that will work with all of your colors. I suggest that you go to your favorite paint website (I love Behr and I go there all the time to choose colors for my house) and play with paint colors that you can visually paint in a room (you can choose the room). Once you find something you like, even if it's a couple of colors, I suggest buying paint samples. Once you get the samples, paint a decent sized section on a wall or two and see how it looks during the day and night. Give yourself a couple of days to decide if that is the shade you want. It's what I did when I moved in our house 3 years ago. It's how I found the shade of blue in my dining room and the shade of gray in my living room, which is in the below photo:This is Classic Silver from Behr and it is a true gray. It looks good with everything in my living room, including the wall hanging that is right of my Mom's painting. The wall hanging has a deep green border....See MoreOpen Kitchen/Dining Area: style help, wood tones, dining table

Comments (31)I appreciate that you want to update the area but I think it might be time to fix the scale and composition. The huge hurdle is the current upholstery and there is no inexpensive way around that. For what it will cost you to reupholster you could purchase a new dining set. IMO the sideboard against the wall is too small, the art is too large, the quality of the light from the chandelier is not good for the space. NO rug is required if you have one in the living area....See MoreSuggestions on modern farmhouse wood tones for subtle gray wall color
Comments (7)You probably don't want to hear this, but the flooring is the biggest problem with the space. I would bet that the cabinets were a natural stained wood that the previous owners painted white to attract buyers. Ditto the gray walls. There's no contrast at all in the room except for the yellow-ish granite, which makes for a bland room. Live in the space for a few months at least before you do anything. Make sure that the layout and appliances work for you--that's the biggest factor in a successful kitchen. If it does, then either paint the cabinets a contrasting color (green/blue) OR replace the floor with a medium toned brown wood. In either case, I'd replace the spotty granite with a subtle light or dark stone or butcher block. If the layout doesn't work, then you have a larger project on your hands. Get a good kitchen designer to work out a good layout and then concentrate on the finishes....See MoreSandeep Sharma
