Boxerpups! Frameless inset cabinets photos pretty please!
Comments (21)Yes, Live wire oak is correct, there is a class of cabinetry called frameless inset. There is no faceframe, just the edge of the plywood box is visible (always 3/4" plywood). The strange bit is when two cabinets abut, and you are treated to the view of two adjacent cabinet edges, and there is an objectionable seam. If the cabinetmaker was up to it, making runs of cabinets one-piece would permit the "doubling" to be eliminated. If you look at the Blum website, there is a hinge made just for frameless inset types. Casey...See MoreBaby-proof latches for frameless or inset cabinets
Comments (23)Even if I was willing to have knives on the counter and count on the baby not climbing up their, a knife block or magnetic strip wouldn't be very feasible for us. We keep kosher so we have separate knives for meat, dairy and parve (neither meat nor dairy). On top of that my favorite knife is a chinese chef's knife (shaped like a cleaver but lighter). I don't have enough available backsplash to put all those on a magnetic strip. mkitchen, I did find a listing for a baby proofer around here. I'm a little concerned that if we get one out, he will want to over-do it. Did you find the suggestions reasonable? And how much did it cost? lightlystarched, what kind of latches did your parents put in that got misshapen and useless after a month? We used latches on a few doors and drawers when our kids were little and they lasted for years. We have put latches on the low doors and drawers in the entertainment center because that is where we have her play area set up and we didn't want to be saying "No" all the time there. My DH and DDIL prefer that we say "only look" or "only touch" if it is something that she can touch but shouldn't put in her mouth to tell her what she can do instead of "no". I prefer to leave "no" or "only look" for the things that she might damage like the vertical blinds and secure the things that could quickly damage her badly....See MoreFrameless inset possibility?
Comments (5)The sides wouldn't be 1.5" thick over the entire surface. It would essentially be another face frame on the side. These also would allow me to add a few pieces between the two vertical sides for attaching closet rods. Here's a rough model I made of what I mean (obviously not complete with drawers and such): I have two options on how to approach the back. 1. I could dado a groove to fit the 1/4" back (I'm assuming that will be sufficient for a closet back) leaving room toward the back for pocket-screwed hanging cleats. Or 2. rabbet the 1/4" back and nail the hanging cleats with a butt-joint. The 1x "frame" on the sides would hide the gap the cleats would create between the wall and the closet back. Besides not having to deal with pocket screws, the other advantage to the second option is that I can eke out 3/4" extra depth without having to cut my plywood any wider. I'm assuming that the first option is stronger, but is the difference significant enough to bother about?...See MoreLowering Cost of Frameless European Cabinets
Comments (15)Ikea with Semihandmade is a great option. We've been super, super happy with our Semihandmade/Ikea bath cabinet. Leicht quoted me $25k and Poggenpohl $60k for a 13x17 kitchen with no pantry pullouts, so your cabinet quotes don't sound bad at all. If you're like us, and Ikea won't work because it won't allow you to maximize use of the space, try getting a few custom quotes. I went on Houzz and searched by geographic area - found some kitchens I liked and made calls until I identified a few custom shops that came highly recommended. We haven't worked out all the details on the custom project, but it'll be a lot less than anyone else, will maximize the space, and will get us exactly the look we want....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
